Keith Griffith, Realtor.com reported on October 2, 2025 that "Government-backed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are temporarily relaxing certain requirements for lenders in an effort to minimize disruptions in loan approvals during the federal government shutdown.
