sandy springs: Fulton Co. Georgia School System says "NO" to GA400 Express Lanes - 09/24/19 02:23 PM
I have been a resident of Sandy Springs, GA for nearly 30 years and it excites me that new Express Lanes are going to help commuters reduce their hours on the road.  However, there are many stakeholders that have waited until the last minute to get involved in the process.  I started attending meetings, reading information published by the GA DOT years ago so that I could understand how this massive road project would effect me, my family, and my property.
As a deadline looms to cement plans for a Ga. 400 expansion through north Fulton County, leaders in three cities are still … (2 comments)

sandy springs: GA400 Toll for speed lanes rec'd $184.1M Grant - 06/06/18 08:28 AM
Plans for toll lanes on Ga. 400 got a boost Tuesday when the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a $184.1 million grant for the project.  Georgia plans to build 17 miles of express toll lanes in Fulton and Forsyth counties. Construction is expected to start in 2021.
The lanes are included in the state’s Major Mobility Investment Program – 11 major road projects to be paid for in part with money from a gas tax increase and other revenue approved by the General Assembly in 2015. The total cost of the Ga. 400 lanes is expected to be about $1.8 billion.

sandy springs: 30 Foot High Managed Traffic Lanes on GA400??? - 05/07/18 10:30 AM
New toll lanes on I-285 and Ga. 400 could tower 30 feet or higher over neighborhoods on elevated ramps, eat into back yards, and plug major interchanges into such local Sandy Springs streets as Mount Vernon Highway and Raider Drive in a state conceptual design that could start construction within five years.
The “managed lanes” could have massive impacts on neighborhood character, local traffic and mass transit options, but the concepts remain largely unknown to the general public. The city of Sandy Springs is protesting parts of the concepts and suggesting some alternatives, but mostly behind the scenes. The Georgia Department of … (0 comments)

sandy springs: MARTA, Atlanta Heavy Rail Commuter Service Looking to Expand Northward - 07/01/14 09:01 AM
When the enemy — in this case, big-city transit — seems intent on invading your neighborhood, you can bet the opposition will be out in force.
That’s how it started, at least, when MARTA held an information session on a potential rail expansion north on Ga. 400. About 100 local residents packed the meeting room at Dunwoody Community Church. It was standing room only.
Atlanta Forward: Transportation Agency is committed to the best routes Before the transit agency made its presentation, the locals, most of them older residents, streamed past maps that showed a potential route along the east side of … (0 comments)

Plans to extend the MARTA rail line up Georgia 400 into Alpharetta are causing some concern for Sandy Springs city leaders.
Currently the MARTA Red Line train stops at the North Springs station. Channel 2's Mike Petchenik has learned that MARTA wants to extend north into Alpharetta. It's where they want to put the tracks that isn't sitting well with some.
"Those that don't study history are doomed to repeat it," said Sandy Springs City Councilman John Paulson, referring to the decades-old discussion about extending train service up Georgia 400.
"In the '90s, when it was announced that MARTA … (0 comments)

sandy springs: GA400 Corridor and MARTA Expansion - 09/27/13 01:24 AM
MARTA Expansion and GA400 Corridor:
For those of us who depend on a strong and thriving economy as well as continued population growth and manageable commutes to boost home sales in North Atlanta; last night's MARTA expansion plans presentation at the Alpharetta, Georgia Town Hall provided few concrete details.
Of the several hundred people in attendance, most seemed to have a faborable view of extending MARTA's Heavy Rail Alternative from the current and final Station at North Springs, to Windward Parkway.  Requested feedback primarily centered on the projected location of future stations and less on cost and projected ridership should the Heavy Rail proposal … (0 comments)

sandy springs: What's Wrong With Sandy Springs, Georgia? - 02/08/13 05:49 AM
Not a damn thing in my humble opinion!  What's wrong with Sandy Springs, Georgia? Absolutely nothing!  I have lived in Sandy Springs for nearly 23 years and don't understand the reluctance some homebuyers have with moving into this city.  Sandy Springs has been one of the most, if not the most successful at a transition to cityhood.  Let me point out some of the great things about living here:
Sandy Springs is hands-down one of the most professionally run cities in the US. Sandy Springs has actually produced an enormous Tax Reserve Fund. More streets have been repaved and sidewalks poured … (0 comments)

sandy springs: Safety Tips for Halloween Trick-of-Treating in Atlanta - 10/29/12 03:59 AM
The Better Business Bureau has issued safety instructions for Halloween Trick-or-Treating. Whether it’s the candy the little ghosts or goblins eat, the costumes they wear or road safety while they are out trick-or-treating, the BBB asks that parents and children take heed of the following advice.
Candy Safety:
Don’t eat candy until it has been inspected at home. Trick-or-treaters should eat a snack before heading out, so they won’t be tempted to nibble on treats that haven’t been inspected. Tell children not to accept—or eat—anything that isn’t commercially wrapped. Parents of very young children should remove any choking hazards such as … (0 comments)
