Valparaiso definately is the place in Porter County that is happening in real estate. The last quarter in 2010 showed that the median price of a home went from $173,000 to $179,000. That is great news, because it indicates that we may have hit the bottom. Many economists are predicting that 2011 will be a good year, but that 2012 should find the housing market back on track and headed back up.  Recently I was in Florida, so of course being a Realtor I stopped to talk to a few Realtors to inquire about their market. I just received this email suposedly from Hotmail. Looked like a scam, googled it, and found out that it is a phishing scam, and should be deleted.  Here's how it read:

The clock is ticking. You must have an signed and accepted purchase agreement by April 30th to qualify for the $8,000
tax refund. Also, the interest rates may start to rise after March 30th, because the feds are removing their support
in buying up mortgage backed securities at that time. Something to watch for for sure. Don't wait too long.

Many people are not aware that if they haven't owned a home in 3 years, they qualify as a first
time home buyer. That means that they are qualified to receive an $8,000 tax refund, and 
many also qualify for the $2,000 additional tax refund from the (MCC) Mortgage Credit
