Contrary to popular opinion, winter is a good time to sell your home! It has been my experience in the last 28 years that many homes have sold during wintertime, making both buyers and sellers happy with their successful real estate moves. Luckily, no one told me to stop listing and selling real estate just because it was cold outside. I was thrilled when I got my picture in the local newspaper as a top producer toward the end of my first year as a real estate agent in 1984. What is happening? The prime goes down but mortgage interest rates are up? Did I hear 6.7%? Did I hear that they are going up by another 1/2 % soon? Please tell me that's not true! As interest rates go up, the amount of home that a buyer can qualify for will go down. It's not too late. 6.75% is still a good rate. The lender for one of my borderline buyers said today that the buyer had better buy soon, or they may not be able to qualify. Are you a little tired of reading the newspaper and feeling a pit of fear in your stomach? I realize sensationalism sells papers, but it's gone too far in my opinion. Do you agree? I honestly believe there is good news out there that could be reported that would inspire a positive outlook and thereby give the economy a much-need boost! I believe most people are still paying their mortgages, going out to dinner, and planning vacations. I know I am still living normally and happily. Everywhere I go; people want to know, "How's the Market," so I tell them! The real estate market is simply not all doom and gloom as the media portrays. Cedar City still has a healthy real estate market compared to many areas in the nation. We still have 100% financing and 3% down loans available! I believe that Cedar City has much that attracts buyers. People love to come to Cedar City, and we are selling homes! We are receiving both negative and positive reports on whether the government bailout will work. My thoughts typically turn to the positive. Why not give it a chance and move forward with life, love, work and laughter as always? Is the news media causing fear and panic in order to sell papers? Resist the urge and enjoy life. Fear and panic are the worst things that could happen. My wise 92-year old mom says, "75% of the things you worry about never happen. Even if they do, why worry about them twice?"
