It's official. Ft Sam Houston, TX, home of the Combat Medic, is now Joint Base San Antonio. Fort Sam has turned over its civilian employees, real property and budget over to the Air Force. Joint Base San Antonio was created as a mandate of the 2005 Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC) to consolidate support functions of nearby installations under one military service. The joint base is managed by the 502nd Air Base Wing commander, Air Force Brig. Gen. Len Patrick, and is composed of Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB, and Fort Sam Houston.
