shell knob: GOT PHONES? - 09/05/07 09:24 AM
Red phones, silver phones,  cameras, video, GPS ............ my head is spinning and my eyes are crossed as I try to learn about all the new technology and attempt  to decide what would be  my best choice to replace my current phone.
I've had excellent service for almost four years from Alltel, and in my rural circumstances, with Ozark hills and rock mountains around Shell Knob, MO to interrupt cell calls, that is saying something.
However - in my research I have found that the reason you get the XYZ phone for nothing more … (4 comments)

shell knob: MISSOURI TARGETS MOVING COMPANIES - 08/31/07 06:32 PM
Complaints about unscrupulous practices used by moving companies, charging more than quoted or holding household goods captive for more money,  have come to the attention of Missouri authorities.
Residents using a moving company coming to or from Shell Knob, MO  and other towns in Missouri, will have more protection next year.
Any company that hauls household goods, within Missouri cities or commercial zones exclusively must obtain state operating authority to continue to provide moving services in 2008.
The carriers must also file and publish their rates and charges.  This change should provide better consumer protection.  The application process will be … (1 comments)

shell knob: CALL THOSE EXPIREDS - 08/18/07 03:28 AM
I just listed four beautiful Shell Knob, MO,  4 acre, waterfront, wooded tracts of land.  I listed them because the previous agents had not called the seller and told them that the listings had expired.
I don't believe any other agents had called and asked for the listings, as the seller did not know they had gone past their listing contract dates.
I got the listing  because I pointed out to the seller that I had shown their listings several times this year, and I live in the area.  I know this area.   The original listing office … (10 comments)

shell knob: KITE TUBING BANNED - 08/11/07 08:24 AM
The US Army Corps of Engineers’ Little Rock District has issued a permanent ban on kite tubing on all waters under its jurisdiction, including Table Rock Lake.
According to a recent release from the Corps " Possession or use of the products on district lakes can lead to a citation. Officials said they made the ban permanent because kite tubes are “inherently dangerous products.”
Kite tubing is a form of extreme water sport that emerged last year. The district issued a temporary ban in July 2006 after a string of accidents involving serious … (4 comments)

shell knob: HOW CAN I SAVE ON GAS - 08/06/07 09:29 AM
I needed a key to show a Shell Knob home last week, and found out the listing agent was in the neighborhood, so he would do the courtesy of dropping it off to me, saving my gas and a half hour drive.
He pulled up with a roar on his motorcycle, and I'm sure  he must save on gas, but I couldn't quite picture taking a client out on it.

I believe in being as "Green" as the next guy.  In fact, now that I think about it, I've been recycling before it was THE thing … (9 comments)

shell knob: TABLE ROCK LAKE - 08/06/07 08:12 AM
SHELL KNOB, MISSOURI FISHING REPORT AUGUST 6Temperatures are high, 86-94 degrees and the rains have been gone for two weeks, so the lake  is  going down and will soon be at normal pool of 915.  This happens as the dam produces more electricity for air conditioning.Table Rock is still clear with surface temperatures in the mid-80's with a thermocline at about 20 feet.  According to Tom Koob, resident fishing expert in Shell Knob, cold-blooded fish will tend to avoid the warmer water and look for slightly cooler water that still has adequate oxygen content.
The fish have to eat to maintain higher … (0 comments)

shell knob: BEAR SIGNS - 08/03/07 07:34 AM
Since I first reported seeing a black bear with her cubs outside Shell Knob last Thanksgiving, some of them are showing up in metropolitan areas in Missouri
Black Bears have been in the news in southwest Missouri.  There was, what the media called, an adolescent male wandering around the Republic community.  Evidentially he was drawn to the bird feeders.  Then a short time later, another one appeared on the south side of Springfield.  Both of these bears were captured and released in a wilderness area.
The Missouri Department of Conservation has initiated a new program to increase public awareness of campers, … (9 comments)

shell knob: TROUT REPORT - ROARING RIVER - JULY 28 - 07/28/07 08:40 AM
According to Tim Homesley, fishing has been great at Roaring River State Park.  The water is a little below normal, clear and in good shape.  Fly fishing doesn't get much better than this.
Size 8 and 10 beetles have been catching a lot of trout, most dry flies are #18's and smaller.
The water is so clear a 7x tippet will catch you more fish, keep leaders long as you can throw comfortably, 9' at least.
CONSERVATION TIP: Not more than three unlabeled fishing poles may be used by any person at one time.

shell knob: 7 BOAT LAUNCH RULES - 07/28/07 08:12 AM
Boat ramps are busy this time of year and Table Rock Lake is no different than other lakes.  There are several public launch sites around Shell Knob for boating enthusiasts.
We've all seen or heard of the newbie boater whose vehicle goes into the drink along with the boat, a few basic rules followed might have prevented that catastrophe.
Following basic rules for launching will help you get on and off the lake quickly and safely. When entering the launch area, pull your vehicle well clear of the ramp.  Prepare your boat and gear before getting on the actual ramp, THEN back … (4 comments)

shell knob: SHELL KNOB FISHING REPORT JULY 28 - 07/28/07 07:43 AM
Table Rock Lake has remained stable for several weeks at 916'.  Surface temperatures are staying in the mid to upper 80's, which produces consistent  fishing patterns.According to Shell Knob's resident fishing expert and author, Tom Koob, bass can be caught shallow at medium depths and deep, using crankbaits and spinnerbaits on transition areas and bluff ends.Catfish remain good on live and natural baits.  Walleye are being taken on deep crankbaits and live nightcrawlers.  Bluegill remain good on any shoreline using live baits or popper bugs.

shell knob: BIG WAKES ON TABLE ROCK - 07/24/07 08:59 AM
There has been a change gradually taking place around Shell Knob.  Summer at the lake was synonomous with water skiing.  The avid waterskiiers knew  you had to get up early to take advantage of the morning's  mirror-like surface on Table Rock Lake.  Traditionalists enjoyed the quiet peaceful waters as they perfected their skills.
Then along came PWC's - Personal Water Crafts.  They caused quite a stir - literally.  Jet Skis, Sea-Doo's,  Wake Boarding,  etc.  Grandma and Grandpa invested in a few water toys  enjoying the sunshine, while pulling the grandkids behind the boat tubing.
That was then and … (0 comments)

shell knob: NUMBERS DON'T LIE - 07/20/07 08:13 AM
2007 Real Estate Sales Pale Compared to '06As a local agent, I would like to see specifics on the local Shell Knob area real estate market,  but these numbers are not available.  We must deduce our individual statistics from the larger area surrounding us,and share in the total numbers.
The first six months of this year saw only half the number of new listings that the same period of time did January to June 2006, in the Tri- Lakes area.
There were 3,954 listings in that six month period in 2006, compared to 2,072 this year.  This confirms our local problem of … (6 comments)

shell knob: SHELL KNOB JULY SPURT IN SALES - 07/17/07 06:52 AM
July 4th, falling mid-week, as it did this year, gave sales of lake property a nudge in Shell Knob.
Sales have been slow this year, as they are in many areas of the country.  The July holiday has traditionally sent families to Table Rock Lake for their summer vacation, and interested potential buyers to investigate becoming  second home or vacation home owners.
The weather cooperated.  It was hot, sunny and Table Rock Lake waters were bathtub warm.  The local merchants enjoyed a brisk business.  Realtors were busy showing property.  It was great!
That was then, … (0 comments)
