Stone County Getting Stuck?
It seems even the Ozarks are not immune to trickle- down economic effects.  The Columbian Bank, which financed most of the Indian Ridge Development adjacent to Branson West, was put into receivership by the FDIC last August.
 

 
Indian Ridge was to be a huge project covering over 1,000 acres, with a projected $1.6 billion budget.  Original plans called for a Resort Hotel; High-tech Convention Center; Extra large indoor water park, plus outdoor water park; Championship Golf Course; Condos, single-family lots; Themed Retail Shopping Mall; Restaurants.

NEW STONE COUNTY ZONING MAP READY FOR INSPECTION

 
Planning and Zoning Commission for Stone County, MO has prepared a zoning map for the public to view before a formal public hearing is announced.The Circuit Court recently held that the County's zoning regulations are invalid, and that the subdivision process violated some state processes.  To remedy this, the Planning and Zoning Commission is working on new zoning regulations for the public to consider.

County to be rezoned into two classifications - commercial or agricultural
In response to a suit filed by MPI (Missouri Partners Inc.) Judge Carr L. Woods ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, that Stone County Planning and Zoning Commission will need to establish a new set of Planning and Zoning Regularions.

Permits frozenThe Judge also ruled that the county has not adopted building regulations or a building code other than setback lines,  which are required by the State.    Stone county is prohibited from issuring permits  under the "Existing - Use Zoning Procedure".

Barry and Stone County criminals better watch out.  A long needed crime lab has opened in Springfield, MO, which will seriously cut the previous  wait for test results by law enforcement officers.


There has been only one lab until now.  Stone and Barry counties will be able to use the lab and it is anticipated,  that what used to take almost a year to obtain DNA and forensic results, will be shortened to less than 60 days in most cases

HERE WE GROW AGAINThe State of Missouri Office of Administration released figures that predicts Barry County population will have increased 3,000 by 2010 to 37,072.                                      
 

  Most of Shell Knob is in Barry County.The biggest percentage of growth in southwest Missouri, is found in Stone and Taney Counties.  The numbers reflect the continuing appeal of the Ozarks for second homes and retirement on Table Rock Lake.

911 CENTER IN CASSVILLE  
Shell Knob residents live in either Barry or Stone County.  Confusing at times?  Yes, but it works out surprisingly well most of the time.   
 
Stone County residents have had 911 service for more than two years, which has confused Barry County Shell Knob residents.  All that will be remedied this week with the new 911 Center for Barry County beginning to transmit from their Cassville County Seat location. 
 
All dispatchers have been trained on the radios and dispatchers from the Barry County Sheriff's office have been hired as part of the team.

Stone and Barry County maps are now available, along with 112 other Missouri counties, on the Missouri Department of Transportation's Web site.
 According to the Mo-DOT Director, Pete Rahn, they get quite a few requests for county maps and wanted to make it easier for people to get them by putting them online.
 
The maps note city streets, forests, rivers hospitals and airports, along with the expected interstates, U.S.routes, state highways and county roads.
 
 
 
Printable maps are 8-1/2 x 11 and can be found at www.modot.mo.gov/newsandinfo/CountyMaps.htm.  Larger versions may be had by calling MoDOT toll-free at 888-ASKMODOT

Covering part of Shell Knob, MO  and east to Lampe, Kimberling City, Reeds Springs,  Branson West , Cape Fair and Galena, the Stone County Health Department Board of Trustees and the Stone County Commissioners, adopted the fee schedule for onsite wastewater treatment effective September 1, 2007.

REASSESSMENT COMPLETED FOR STONE COUNTY
 Shell Knob covers portions of two counties.  The majority of it's residents live in Barry County, but a large portion reside in Stone County.  Barry County completed its two year assessment requirements earlier this month.
The Assessor of Stone County, Allen Berkstresser, advised that the reassesment of real  estate for 2007-2008 assessment years is complete.
 
Notices have been mailed to owners whose property value has increased.  No notices have been sent to properties whose value has decreased or remained the same.

This is a quiet, somewhat gated, community on a quiet dead-end road.  All the homes are on the waterfront.  There is a community dock available for the residents.  The gate is rarely closed in this peaceful community.
