national association of realtors: NAR Should Sponsor A "Lies Of Omission" Designation For REALTORS - 09/03/12 12:22 AM
I continue to shake my head in awe at the deceptive real estate report that is published each month by the marketing department of the National Association of Realtors.
If you are a long-time reader of the Tallahassee Real Estate Blog, then you know that I report on NAR's opinion reports each month. They continue to spiral down the path of marketing and promotion, rather than reporting the true state of the real estate market. And their biggest crime is not what they are saying, it is what they are implying.
In its most recent real estate report, NAR wrote:

national association of realtors: Is NARs Pending Home Sales Index Pure Fiction? - 07/26/12 10:38 PM
I have to admit it, the only reason that I read the monthly Pending Home Sales Index published by NAR is to see how they will spin the housing data into something positive for the housing market.
Imagine my "lack of shock" this month when I saw the positive report regarding 14 consecutive months of year-over-year gains in the pending home Sales Index. Of course, my memory reminded me that we continue to revise past numbers down so that current numbers appear higher.
If you would like to see the latest pending home Sales Index spin by the National Association of … (4 comments)

national association of realtors: Why I Wouldn't Play Golf Against The NAR Reporting Staff - 05/27/12 11:45 PM
The headline might make you wonder how the game of golf could in any fashion relate to NAR real estate reports. Sadly, the parallels are very evident these days.
Sandbaggers in golf are the most vile of creatures, artificially inflating their handicap in order to hustle the competition, usually with the intent of winning a bet.
In order to allow golfers of differing capabilities to compete with each other, a handicap system was established which relies on each golfer's recent scores to determine an index that for the most part, is very effective at leveling the playing field for all parties.

national association of realtors: NAR Says Worst Is Behind Us ... Do You Believe Dr. Yun This Time? - 03/28/12 10:57 PM
What can I say, but it's that time of the month again, time for us to review the Pending Home Sales Report from the National Association of REALTORS®.
Historically, this housing report has been a measurement compiled by NAR and then used to proclaim the housing market "stronger than ever," but I suspect the public might be on to the cheer leading efforts of Dr. Yun.
The Pending Home Sales Report is a forward-looking report, as it measures the number of contracts in the MLS, not actual real estate closings. But we know that future sales will likely be a subset … (6 comments)

national association of realtors: Why Does NAR's Yun Avoid Reporting The Real Issue? - 09/01/11 11:43 PM
Every month, the National Association of REALTORS® publishes the Pending Home Sales Index which is a report of the total number of signed realestate contracts awaiting closing. If you have read any of my reviews of these reports, then you will understand why Dr. Lawrence Yun’s head is spinning in the image on the right.
As Chief SpinMaster (sometimes referred to as the Chief Economist) for NAR, Dr. Yun’s job is to extract data from the combined MLS systems across the country and tell us why “now is the time to buy!” Apparently, things are always good in NAR Land.

national association of realtors: The 3 Key Homebuyer Stages In Internet Marketing - 03/23/11 02:01 AM
The role of internet marketing in real estate has grown profoundly over the past few years. In an industry that once used print media as its primary form of delivering the marketing message, there is now an urgent need to have transitioned to the internet in order to reach today's homebuyer. So what does a real estate company do to get the message out to today's real estate consumer?
First of all, we have to understand the process that our customers utilize when it comes to selling a home in Tallahassee or buying a home. A recent study by the National … (10 comments)

national association of realtors: Is There Really A Secret Society Of Evil Property Appraisers? - 03/22/11 03:52 AM
Existing home sales in Tallahassee bucked the national trend in February by rising for a second consecutive month. February existing home sales were up 28% compared to February 2010, which following the 61% rise in January has made for a great start to the 2011 housing market. But don't pop the corks on the champagne bottles just yet.

In the real estate graph above, we see vertical bars representing a gaining month when they move above the 0% axis, or a declining month when below the 0% axis. These two months of gains have been well earned, having followed 6 … (3 comments)

national association of realtors: Pay Attention To Your Local REALTOR® Reports - 01/25/10 10:10 PM
The 25th of each month is the day when we get to see the latest existing-home sales report that is published by the National Association of REALTORS®, so it is a day marked on my calendar for monthly action.
I always look forward to both reading the report as well as reading and hearing the interpretation and forecasts that are derived as a result of others reading the report.
Yesterday was no exception. While celebrating the birthday of my “way to good for me” wife with our children at a local restaurant, we bumped into a family friend who happens … (35 comments)
