Granted - you may not hate HOAs (homeowner associations) at all.  Some people wouldn't consider living in a community without one.
But even people who want an HOA to control their neighbors, often would rather not have that same control directed towards them!
I have had clients who 'hated' HOAs, wouldn't move into a neighborhood that had one, but also walked away from nice homes if the neighbors yards were 'trashed'.
