I recently learned that a former colleague and friend's daughter received the highest honor an amateur soccer coach could get. Keri Sarver, daughter of Karl and Joanne Sarver of North Canton, Ohio, was recently named the 2009 Coach of the Year for Girls by US Soccer. Keri as also the Region II Coach of the Year for competitive girls. The University of Akron men's soccer team has been one of the most productive programs at the university since its inaugural season in 1955. The University of Akron men's soccer team is closing in on a national championship. This is not a new scenario for the University's most notable sport on the national scene. The men's soccer team has been a perennial power for several years and has been ranked high nationally during most of their past several seasons. Congratulations to Marty Misbrenner. Marty was recently inducted into the Ohio Soccer Hall of Fame. This honor is well deserved for a man who has dedicated his adult life to the promotion and development of the game. I have known Marty for several years as a soccer associate. He is a genuinely dedicated individual who has grown up with the game and has shared his knowledge to the benefit of many young people in the Akron area.
