activerain: The Power of Kennedy - 03/17/13 09:48 AM
My blog post"Relationship Is When You Are Naked In Bed" was featured, had its share of activity for few days, and then it all stopped. That's how blog posts live and die, nothing unusual.
Unusual , however, was that today, on Sunday morning, after 3 days of it being dormant, there were comments, and not an occasional one, but ten of them. That was very unusual, and I was puzzled by it, and even commented on this strange occurence asking why suddenly there was extra activity.
And right after that the comment popped up and it was from Patricia Kennedy, … (4 comments)

activerain: I Am Soooo Angry... - 02/19/13 02:26 AM
Dear General Manager,
Please cancel rental of our unit xxx as it is ridiculous that we pay fees ($ 120)  to rent it rather then making a revenue
I received this email today. It was not to me, it is to General Manager of a condo-hotel in Daytona Beach Shores, but the owner, my former client, copied me.
So, here we are. February 19, 2013. Daytona 500 is just in few days, every room in the area is rented for the highest amount they ever charge during the year, and my client wants out, because he received the invoice for $120…for … (8 comments)

activerain: Champagne and Chocolate For The Soul - 02/14/13 01:10 AM
Contrary to popular belief, writing is G-d given talent, and G-d isn’t really generous with it. I assume this popular belief is because, technically, we all can write. We all have our little talents, but then there are a few people who are blessed. Contrary to popular belief (here I go again – LOL), talented people are not always really popular. How many of us are reading everyday crap, but haven’t read literary masterpieces since school or college? The ability to rhythm, or to write is a technical skill. Poetry is when the words magically create that new something, which does … (4 comments)

activerain: I Want To Help, But Do Not Like The Cause - 02/09/13 11:48 PM
When I first wanted to campaign on Gail’s behalf, which was, probably more than a year ago, I asked my daughter Inna to call Gail and talk to her. Gail thanked, but she refused. Among other things it was because it could hurt her business if she goes public with that. And hurting her business wasn’t my idea.
So, I ended up doing nothing, Inna and Jon helped her with some stuff for her business. When she posted 2 days ago, I thought that now she understands that she did not get loan modification, she so believed in, and I thought … (8 comments)

activerain: Can You Short Sale? - 01/27/13 11:18 PM
I am curious whether weird economy is paired with weird English. «Short sale» is a very common combination, and I doubt there is anyone in the nation, who at least have not heard it or read it.
Of course, you can find it everywhere. And often in a sentence, where it is used as a verb.
«... to short sale».
But sale is not a verb. I could understand «to short sell», but I have a feeling that «to short sale» is not really English...
But I am an immigrant, and can easily be confused, so what do you think?

activerain: A Failure Called Achievement - 01/26/13 01:48 PM
I ran into this featured blog post by Tracy Lee Parker Be PROUD to short sale your home!  and I can't disagree more.
I also can't agree to some comments, where all the blame goes to lenders, as if we were signing Notes and Mortgages under the big influence of heck knows what. I do not like the reference to Lenders because it makes us idiots. The bank was not creating the fake value, it only provided money... or easy money.
But for the same token Las Vegas casino carries a promise of a big win. Or Powerball... So, if i … (71 comments)

activerain: Condolences On Your Achievements... - 01/20/13 01:45 PM

For the last few weeks something started happening, which did not happen before. I am pretty bad with Social media, so I figure there is a new trend, which I do not know about.
I started getting messages that I have been endorsed on LinkedIn by a whole  bunch of people.
I am getting messages “Jon, I’ve just endorsed you for new skills & expertise!”
As if I suddenly became very visible and popular guy. The endorsements come from real estate people, who know me through AR, but they also come from people outside the professional circles. I got endorsed … (17 comments)

activerain: How Money Grows... - 01/09/13 04:09 PM
I have been selling condo-hotels for 11 years. Every time I ask my Buyers how they intend to use a condo-hotel unit. Usually they say it is their vacation getaway, that they do not plan to retire in Daytona, would rent it when not in use by them, which is what condo-hotels are for.
But time from time they tell me they are not going to rent, and will be staying there either full time, or months and months at a time, and I try to explain to them that this is the wrong use for condo-hotel, and they are not … (2 comments)

activerain: I Was Talking To A Schmuck... - 01/08/13 03:05 AM

If you are clumsy, as I am, you know that “surprise” of sending the email message to the wrong recipient. It happened to me yesterday. I started typing the email address and immediately there was a pop up showing a bunch of email addresses starting with these letters, and I scrolled down to the right one and clicked and then clicked “Send”, but because my fingers worked faster than my brain, I did not even noticed that I clicked second best, which ended up in the wrong mailbox.
The one I was sending, was to my client. The one where … (114 comments)

activerain: … And A Lobster! - 12/06/12 12:19 PM
I finally “succumbed” to an AR meet-up. It was in Cocoa Beach, good 79 miles from me. Why Cocoa? Why not Orlando? Because Orlando has not hosted a meet up ever. I am puzzled why nobody hosted a meet-up in Orlando, with all active AR members in the area… But they don’t, so my choices are several hour drive to South Florida, or just an hour and 20 minutes to Cocoa Beach.
How the host Diana Zaccaro manages to do it in tiny Cocoa Beach was a burning question. So, my wife agreed to accompany me and we went. There are … (33 comments)

activerain: Learning To Speak UP...Again - 11/27/12 11:59 AM
I truly believe that if we are OK with plagiarism on AR, then we should not be questioning why general public has a very low opinion about us. It is simple, if we are OK with others stealing before our eyes, we are OK with stealing, period.
But things are never black and white. There are services, where for a fee somebody would allow you to use the content that you did not write. After all, our President does not write much himself…
Legally you pay for the right to use the content as yours. I do not see anything wrong … (20 comments)

activerain: Do You Goodmouth? - 11/24/12 11:59 PM
I just ran into a reblog on AR. I left a comment for a reblogger. Luckily, it was not the case where the comments are disabled, which I can’t stand, and then I went to the original blog to leave a comment, a different one, as I rarely leave the same comment on both posts.

But what a surprise. I can’t find the comment from a person, who reblogged the post. It is not unusual, and no, it is not only new members who do it. I see seasoned AR members, who would reblog, and thus acknowledge the value, but … (30 comments)

activerain: EXPO at NAR Convention - 11/11/12 03:24 PM
On Saturday I went to Orlando for the EXPO. I know that it would be great to sign for the whole convention and spend time there, but I can’t force myself to do it, so I brave only for the EXPOs every time the convention is in Orlando.

I went to a Home Show in Orlando relatively recently, and though media touted it as a comeback, it was pitiful. There were more skin care products and other stuff unrelated to anything home, that it was pathetic.
I was a bit nervous going to NAR convention, as I was afraid to … (12 comments)

activerain: «Lazy» Math - 08/23/12 06:18 AM
The letter came in the mail. It is from Domain Registry of America. It is Domain name expiration notice. They notify me that my domain name is due to expire and they offer the renewal.
That is very thoughtful of them. The only small problem is that they are asking arm and a leg for the renewal. For one year it is $35, for two years $60 (savings of $10), and for five years it is $120 (savings of $55).
Hmm, I just renewed my other domain on Hostway.com for a little under $9 a year. It makes me think why they … (13 comments)

activerain: I Am Semi-Retiring From AR - 06/27/12 11:18 PM
It is funny but I did not have time to announce my semi-retirement from AR for more than a week now. Yep, it is time to stop the race and get practical. At 10 posts per week and 10 comments a day and considering the time I was devoting to doing this, it was eating me alive. I could try doing it faster, but it would come at the expense of quality. I perfectly understand that quality is very relative thing, and even with all the time I was devoting to writing, the quality was often borderline. What this race taught … (28 comments)

activerain: AR Riches? - 06/26/12 10:09 PM
There are currently 39 millionaires (those who have accumulated over 1 Mil points) on AR. On average less than one per state. Actually, some states have more than one millionaire, and some have none. So, which is the most competitive state? If you look at the number of “millionaires”, Florida is a leader with 6 “millionaires” out of 24,011 members on AR. California has 4 “millionaires” out of 34,034 and Virginia has 4 out of only 6,500 members. But take Nevada with their 3 “Millionaires” and they only have 2,973 members on AR. In that sense 3 out of 2,973 is … (22 comments)

activerain: Active Rain Coincidence... What a Surprise! - 05/23/12 04:57 PM
Life is always full of surprises. A week ago I have received a call from a fellow Rainer. She was looking for a condo-hotel in Daytona area, and asked me whether I could work with her. She came on Tuesday with her daughter, and we spent a few hours on Tuesday looking at condo-hotels. When I thought that they had enough of them, we agreed that they will think about what they saw and we will talk in the morning.
Turned out they had more energy than I thought, and went on their own to Hawaiian Inn, which was not on … (12 comments)

activerain: Mike Cooper. AR Rising Star. - 05/18/12 01:16 PM
I have been on AR for some time and I watched people leaving and people coming. Everyone is different. Some come unnoticed, and then their stars line up and they start shining, and some enter AR orbit with enough light and speed to be immediately noticed.
I think Mike is that star. We met today in my office and then had lunch at Zen Bistro, a local tiny Thai Restaurant. I thought I know Mike from his very impressive blog posts, but I did not read his “about me” page until just now, and I regret it. There is so much … (24 comments)

activerain: A Mentor To Sensei - 05/13/12 03:27 PM
When I read Dick Greenberg’s Sensei/Grasshopper - An April Challenge! I knew that I did not need to ask if anyone needed my help. I knew exactly what I was going to do. I have known Alex Lopouchanski for probably 6 years now. It all started when we were working with a client, who was illegal alien, and had difficult time getting a mortgage, and after two powerful mortgage brokerages failed, the Buyer came to me with an ad from the Russian newspaper and asked me to call the guy. I was more than skeptical, but called. He managed to get … (4 comments)

activerain: My Fierce Competitor... Congratulations! - 03/11/12 03:08 PM
If you go to Leaderboard in Florida, you will see that my fierce competitor is Gabe Sanders from Stuart, Florida.
Interestingly, there is something in common between us besides being older males.
We are both Jewish (even though I am not religious), and we are both immigrants, who came from Eastern Europe. He – from Hungary. I – from the Soviet Union.
Of the two, he is much smarter, because he came in 1956, and it took me way too long to get out of the Soviet Union. So, Gabe in America realized his American dream, while I in America realized … (18 comments)
