living in daytona beach: Shark Bites in Volusia County - 11/04/20 05:47 AM
Shark Bites in My Neck of the WoodsShark Bites in Our County – the Shark-Bites Capital of the World
Just a few days ago came the news of the 10th shark bite in Volusia County, where I live, and which includes Daytona, Ormond and New Smyrna Beach and a bunch of other cities and towns. Out of 10 bites this year, 9 happened in New Smyrna Beach near the jetties just south from Daytona. The 10th happened in Ormond Beach north of Daytona.
A 17-year old was bit on the leg, nothing very serious, but he required stitches. Common thing happening to surfers … (6 comments)

living in daytona beach: Dealing With Monsters - 06/03/18 11:45 AM
The weekend was marked by the Truck event. First event took place in 2014. Last year people were outraged and there were a lot of complaints, so everybody was saying that there would be no more truck events.
Well, they were wrong.
What's the problem with the trucks (and about 15,000 guests) in town? Daytona knows much bigger events, and locals are mostly fine with that. living in daytona beach: "More Americans Heading South" - 04/02/16 12:35 AM
Just read an article on our FloridaRealtors.org website

Summer turned out very Floridian. I heard that there was a time when it was raining in Florida every day. All the water evaporating was coming back on us in the second half of the day.
But I never experienced it in real life until today. We have seen a lot of rains even before, but they were not coming on a clock, we had dry spells and even massive fires...
But this summer we have it like it should be. It is wonderful and sunny in the morning, and then the skies change and in the second half of the … (6 comments)

living in daytona beach: Mother Nature's Wow Factor... - 08/03/13 12:08 PM
This summer in Daytona reminds me of old stories about Daytona weather, when every day in the afternoon there was rain or thunderstorm. Old-timers were saying that because of all the development the pattern has changed and now we have fewer rains...
Well, not this year. It is raining practically every day. There, probably, were only 2 days without rain in July, but the beauty of living in Florida is that it does not annoy you. You wake up to a sun and blue sky, and when the thunderstorm comes, it is welcomed, it brings cooler air, and it brings water, … (8 comments)
