But it's not all bad news as we remain among the nation's leading housing markets. Phoenix, Arizona ranks No. 4 among the top five new-home markets nationwide, according to the latest building permit data from the U.S. Census Bureau. New York takes the lead, followed by Houston and Dallas. Forbes: Valley home to four of nation's 10 fastest-growing suburbs, from the Business Journal of Phoenix, reports that according to a survey released this week by Forbes magazine, Buckeye,Arizona. Surprise, Arizona. Goodyear, Arizona and Avondale, Arizona all come in the top 10 fastest growing suburbs in the U.S., according to Census Bureau data. Buckeye homes in Az. was the second-fastest growing suburb in the U.S. from 2000 to 2006, growing from 10,147 to 29,615, a jump of 192 percent. Freddie Mac reported Thursday that rates on 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages averaged 6.67 percent this week, compared with 6.69 percent last week.
