north wildwood: Late Winter Newsletter - 03/08/11 09:48 PM
THE WORST IS OVER
Knock on wood, the worst weather that winter has to offer has already been served up. The daylight hours are longer now and the smell of spring is in the air. Even a few daffodils are popping up.
Winter did get off to a horrendous start here in Cape May County. The average temperature in both December and January was about six degrees below normal. Brrrr! After getting hit with 17 inches of snow the day after Christmas, the future looked bleak. Surprisingly, that was it. The next six snow-storms basically started as rain and left a … (0 comments)

north wildwood: The Vacation Home Real Estate Market is back! - 12/23/10 07:02 AM
The Vacation Home Real Estate Market is back! Go ahead and snicker.  This Mountain Man guy (and City Girl) is full of bull, you're thinking.  Not so fast, my friend. Sure, the national unemployment numbers are still tough to swallow.  And yes, we are still seeing more vacant store fronts popping up.  Discretionary spending is off, too, though you have to wonder when you see folks descend on a mall and drop hundreds of dollars on trivial junk for Christmas. But here in Cape May County, New Jersey at the shore, the tide has turned in the real estate market.  Pun intended.  … (0 comments)

Catholic Schools reeling in Cape May County
January 6th, 2010
Just one day after school officials called rumors of Wildwood Catholic High School's closing unfounded, the Diocese of Camden announced that the school will close at the end of the school year this June.  It's just the latest round in the demise of the Catholic church in Cape May County.
In 2007, St. Raymond's elementary/junior high school in the Villas section of Lower Township was closed by the Diocese of Camden, which oversees the Catholic goings-on in southern New Jersey.  Students, parents, and teachers were saddened, outraged, and in shock.  … (4 comments)

Real Estate Looking Up For 2009
January 10th, 2009
Happy New Year Everyone!  Jewell Real Estate Agency had a good 2008, and we are looking forward to an even better 2009.  The year started off with a bang on January 2.  Our office was so busy and crowded you couldn't move.  Both Douglas and I had people in our office looking to buy and there were people in the front office waiting to talk to us.  Instead of all the doom and gloom that you read in the newspaper, the people we talked to were upbeat and felt it's the … (0 comments)

north wildwood: The Sky Is Not Falling In Cape May County, New Jersey - 02/25/08 11:10 AM
The newspapers are full of doom and gloom with stories about the real estate market.  They make generalizations about foreclosures, prices dropping, the bottom hasn't hit yet and so on.  It would be nice if just once they mentioned all the good things that are happening.  My husband, Douglas, and I own Jewell Real Estate Agency with offices in Wildwood Crest and Swainton.  Good things are in store for the South Jersey Shore area.   Douglas is the writer in the family and in the following paragraghs he highlights many of the positive things Cape May County and Atlantic County have to look forward to.

north wildwood: North Wildwood Waterpark and Hotel - 07/19/07 02:47 PM
Great things are in store for the Wildwoods.  North Wildwood City Council approved a 90,000 square-foot pirate-themed indoor waterpark where Seaport Pier now stands.  Construction will include a water park on the east side of the Boardwalk between 22nd and 23rd Avenues and a 16-story 425-room hotel on the west side. There will be an overhead walkway linking the two properties.  Also planned is 3 restaurants and a 600-car parking garage.   If the project receives all the necessary approvals, it could be open in 2010.  This could bring 300-400 year rounds jobs to the area besides all the construction jobs.  Groundbreaking is expected in … (2 comments)
