Having just recently completed National radon testing certification I was repeatedly reminded of the EPA radon action level standard of 4.0 pCi/L. Every home inspector and real estate agent who works in an area where radon is a concern is familiar with this standard. What many do not know is that this standard is not health based. It is a mechanical standard based on mitigation technology.

Summertime warm weather and open windows. A radon testing nightmare.
Every late spring when the weather begins to warm the battle begins. Your client has requested a radon test along with the home inspection. You arrive at the home and the windows are open. You say to the Realtor all the windows must be closed in order for the test to be done correctly.
The Realtor says, "I thought only the basement windows need to be closed".
You say, "No all the windows."
The agent replies, "The other inspectors don't do it that way".
