Garage doors and automatic openers are dangerous devices. Approximately 20,000 injuries and a few deaths, usually to small children, occur each year from these machines. Because of these inherent dangers various safety mechanisms have been incorporated into the automatic openers.
The most visible and the one most everyone is familiar with is the sensor eye. It simply works by shooting a beam of light between the two sensors. When the door is in motion and the beam is broken by say a child, the door automatically reverses.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard the remark; I thought the furnace guy cleaned the chimney; well I'd be retiring sooner. The fact is the "furnace guy" cleans the furnace, boiler and or water heater, he never touches the chimney. That's a job for a chimney sweep.
The picture at the right is the chimney cleanout on a 1950s ranch home in Wallingford, CT. When looking at the chimney from the exterior during the beginning of the home inspection, there was a good amount of soot staining near the upper portion of the chimney. I remarked to … (1 comments)

wallingford: Wallingford CT, Unsafe Electric Service Panel - 08/03/07 07:48 AM
During my inspection this morning I found this extremely unsafe main service panel. I have never seen a main service wire of this type. That of course would be because it is not the correct type of wire for this application. It appears to be a heavy duty cord used in commercial-industrial applications for machinery. It is also way undersized for the system
