coeur dalene: Coeur d'Alene ID named #5 of 33 Most Scenic Towns in North America - 02/09/19 05:18 PM
Those of us who live in beautiful Coeur d'Alene Idaho have become accustomed to seeing our beautiful home town pop up on "The Best of..." lists of all sorts.
Most recently, we've made the news as #5 on CarRentals.com's list of 33 Most Scenic Towns in North America. The 33 Most Scenic Towns in North America list lures readers to the open road, inviting them to "dive straight into places of wonder" and escape everyday life.
However, for me it is precisely my travels out and about as part of the routine of my daily life that take me past spectacular scenery and sights that sometimes … (1 comments)

coeur dalene: Oh, deer. In spite of snow, officials say DON'T FEED THEM in town! - 01/16/17 09:12 AM
Coeur d'Alene residents have become concerned that deer
are coming into town at increasingly higher numbers in search of food.
They worry that there isn't enough food for them with our deep snow cover and are starting to feed them.
Idaho Fish & Game have cautioned us that it hasn't gotten to the point where emergency deer feeding is necessary.  They do keep track and are prepared to implement emergency feeding if it becomes essential to our dear deer's well being.
They assure us that local deer
have a sufficient supply of food to carry
them through the winter.
They also caution against the dangers of people … (2 comments)

coeur dalene: It was a Trash Can Clam Bake on the Spokane River in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. - 09/18/11 05:13 AM
Janna Rankin Scharf, AB, GRI, CLHMS, SFR - Coeur d'Alene Idaho Real Estate Specialist
Last week I had an opportunity to participate in a fun evening of food and friends at the spectacular Spokane River home of Ron and Pam Nilsen in the lovely Edgewater community.
The event was a fundraiser for the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce.  It was casual and laid back, what else do you expect when dinner is being cooked in a trash can!?  The twenty four people who had the winning bids gathered to celebrate summer and the best of all that Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls … (8 comments)

coeur dalene: Another National Magazine Praises Coeur d'Alene - 03/25/09 12:53 PM
The cat has been out of the bag for a while now, but the latest endorsement of The Lake City as a spectacular place is made in April's Every Day with Rachel Ray magazine.
The April edition of the famous cook's national magazine features Coeur d'Alene in a photo essay and highlights a few businesses that give some funky character to the town.
My good friend John Hough, who with his wife Tina own the historical Roosevelt Inn Bed & Breakfast, sums it up.
"What is there not to like about Coeur d'Alene?  I've been all around the world," he said, "But … (2 comments)

coeur dalene: Coeur d'Alene Makes the A List AGAIN, This Time for being a "Great Town" - 03/02/09 01:45 PM

It's not a news flash to local residents that Coeur d'Alene is a great town.  In fact, we are getting used to the accolades.  We're often recognized for our outstanding natural beauty and wonderful quality of life whenever a new list comes out.  According to Jonathan Coe, president of the Coeur d'Alene Area Chamber of Commerce, "Every time we get another feather in our cap it is one more boost for the economy."  Well, that sure sounds good about now!
The Lake City is a solid 10 in The Great Towns of America,a 624-page book that features the 100 Best Getaways for a … (8 comments)

coeur dalene: Yes friend, there IS some GOOD NEWS in our Coeur d'Alene real estate market! - 09/29/08 06:47 AM
In a conversation last night with some friends who have their home for sale, we were discussing the state of our Coeur d'Alene and Kootenai Coeur d'Alene real estate market. Forget the spin, the facts from a SELLER'S perspective are grim.  At least in terms of number of sales and sales volume over last year.  At one point, tongue in cheek, my friend asked, "What's the GOOD news?"  Well, actually, there IS good news!  In spite of the fact that in the past six months the number of homes sold in Kootenai county were down 29% from the same period last year, and sales volume was … (1 comments)

coeur dalene: Coeur d'Alene Idaho named 2nd Best Performing Small City in United States - 09/29/08 05:56 AM
It's no surprise to those of us who love living here that the Coeur d'Alene metro-statistical area ~ Kootenai County, including Post Falls and Hayden ~ placed 2nd on the Milken Institute's Best Performing Small Cities list for 2008, up four points from last year's 6th place finish.  "Coeur d'alene is not a secret anymore.  We're well known on both the East and West coasts," said Steve Griffitts, president of Jobs Plus, Inc., the Coeur d'Alene area economic development organization.  The index ranks U.S. metro areas to reveal where jobs and prosperity are being created based on economic growth, long- and short-termed measurements … (6 comments)

coeur dalene: Oh FUDGE, It's Hunting Season in North Idaho! - 09/15/08 02:52 AM
My 14 year old is a city boy, our caboose child that we have uprooted and brought with us home to Coeur d'Alene.  Born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado where no one would be caught dead wearing anything camo.  His reaction to seeing so many people wearing so much camo at every function, camo cars, camo cell phones, camo this and that, has caused him to scratch his head in astonishment.  At a youth activity he was amazed that one of his leaders' cell phones rang, with a ring tone of an Elk bugle! The fellow ignored the call, which prompted his message … (5 comments)

coeur dalene: Look, it's a MOOSE! And a good reason to keep my camera handy! - 09/12/08 10:00 AM
I made time yesterday afternoon to attend a Broker Open House that was about a 30 minute drive along the lake south of Coeur d'Alene, almost to Harrison.  It was a beautiful day and I talked my husband into being my chauffer.  It's not every day that you can take a drive along one of the world's most spectacular lakes on a glorious afternoon with your sweetheart - and technically still be working!  I networked with some great people I wouldn't have met otherwise, and toured a home with hands down THE most breathtaking lake view I have seen in these parts.  On … (4 comments)

coeur dalene: Another GLORIOUS Labor Day weekend in North Idaho! - 08/30/08 06:25 AM
I am racing to finish up my chores so I can be free for the remainder of the weekend to be out and about in beautiful North Idaho with my hubby and son!  I think I will do something I have never done before - drive the circuitous route from Coeur d'Alene around the lake through Harrison and up the other side back home.  I love it when I can just cruise in my convertible with the top down, taking in the sights and sounds and going wherever the road leads me!  I'll take pictures as I go and post them for your … (1 comments)

coeur dalene: A 14 Year Old's Perspective of Assisted Living By the Lake - 08/27/08 04:53 PM
A funny thing happened with my relocation to Coeur d'Alene.  My husband and I postponed our move until our graduating senior had a chance to graduate.  Yay, Kristen!  She is now happily off to college and enjoying her new freedom.  But my youngest son, 14 year old Derek, had no choice but to head north with us.  He spent months trying to convince us that he should remain in Colorado to graduate from the same school as his four older siblings while living with his older brother and sister-in-law.  Came up with all kinds of reasons.  Some of them pretty good!  They included all … (2 comments)

coeur dalene: Selling MY Home in a Buyer's Market. From Listing to SOLD in 30 days! - 08/27/08 01:09 PM

No one was more surprised (and pleasantly so) than I was that my home sold so quickly.  I was expecting to have more time to get my life in order for my relocation from Colorado to Idaho.  Being a Realtor, I knew what it takes and figured I better practice what I preach.  I had been watching the neighborhood comps closely for about 6 months.  I needed a quick sale, which meant I needed to PRICE my home correctly.  Like everyone else, I didn't want to leave any money on the table. But the happy circumstances of my son, daughter-in-law and darling granddaughter unexpectedly … (0 comments)

coeur dalene: Who Says You Can't Go Home! - 08/26/08 01:37 AM
What a great place to call home!  My husband, Rick, and I have spent all of 2008 working on transitioning our home back to North Idaho from Fort Collins, Colorado.  The college town of Fort Collins, with it's wonderful quality of life, is always highly ranked in Money Magazine's Best Place to Live lists.  It was 1st in 2006 and is currently ranked 2nd.  We've been there happily raising our family for the past 16 years.  But, something about North Idaho, where I grew up happily running amok in, on and around the lake, has always been quietly calling to us.  We … (19 comments)
