Those of us who live in beautiful Coeur d'Alene Idaho have become accustomed to seeing our beautiful home town pop up on "The Best of..." lists of all sorts.
Most recently, we've made the news as #5 on CarRentals.com's list of 33 Most Scenic Towns in North America. The 33 Most Scenic Towns in North America list lures readers to the open road, inviting them to "dive straight into places of wonder" and escape everyday life.

Coeur d'Alene residents have become concerned that deer
are coming into town at increasingly higher numbers in search of food.
They worry that there isn't enough food for them with our deep snow cover and are starting to feed them.
Idaho Fish & Game have cautioned us that it hasn't gotten to the point where emergency deer feeding is necessary. They do keep track and are prepared to implement emergency feeding if it becomes essential to our dear deer's well being.
They assure us that local deer
have a sufficient supply of food to carry
them through the winter.

The cat has been out of the bag for a while now, but the latest endorsement of The Lake City as a spectacular place is made in April's Every Day with Rachel Ray magazine.
The April edition of the famous cook's national magazine features Coeur d'Alene in a photo essay and highlights a few businesses that give some funky character to the town.

It's not a news flash to local residents that Coeur d'Alene is a great town. In fact, we are getting used to the accolades. We're often recognized for our outstanding natural beauty and wonderful quality of life whenever a new list comes out. In a conversation last night with some friends who have their home for sale, we were discussing the state of our Coeur d'Alene and Kootenai Coeur d'Alene real estate market. Forget the spin, the facts from a SELLER'S perspective are grim. At least in terms of number of sales and sales volume over last year. My 14 year old is a city boy, our caboose child that we have uprooted and brought with us home to Coeur d'Alene. Born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado where no one would be caught dead wearing anything camo. His reaction to seeing so many people wearing so much camo at every function, camo cars, camo cell phones, camo this and that, has caused him to scratch his head in astonishment. I made time yesterday afternoon to attend a Broker Open House that was about a 30 minute drive along the lake south of Coeur d'Alene, almost to Harrison. It was a beautiful day and I talked my husband into being my chauffer. It's not every day that you can take a drive along one of the world's most spectacular lakes on a glorious afternoon with your sweetheart - and technically still be working! A funny thing happened with my relocation to Coeur d'Alene. My husband and I postponed our move until our graduating senior had a chance to graduate. Yay, Kristen! She is now happily off to college and enjoying her new freedom. But my youngest son, 14 year old Derek, had no choice but to head north with us. He spent months trying to convince us that he should remain in Colorado to graduate from the same school as his four older siblings while living with his older brother and sister-in-law. What a great place to call home! My husband, Rick, and I have spent all of 2008 working on transitioning our home back to North Idaho from Fort Collins, Colorado. The college town of Fort Collins, with it's wonderful quality of life, is always highly ranked in Money Magazine's Best Place to Live lists. It was 1st in 2006 and is currently ranked 2nd. We've been there happily raising our family for the past 16 years.
