The weather outside is frightful! If you'd like something family friendly to do in the warth of indoors, the Hayden Historic Preservation Commission has invited the public to view a new exhibit of old photographs of the city as it used to be. According to legend, the name Hayden comes from a man named Matt Heyden, a pioneer who won the rights to name the lake, and therefore the city by winning a game of “seven-up” against John Hager and John Hickey in 1878. Photographs taken as early as 1920 are on view in the lobby of Hayden City Hall at 8930 N. Government Way. … (0 comments)

Driving along Lancaster Road this afternoon, the skies were dark as I headed from Rathdrum to Hayden. As I neared Hwy. 95, this beautiful field of sunshine appeared before me. I'm not sure what it is that is growing here in such a bright, sunshiny display, but the scene took my breath away!

It's no surprise to those of us who love living here that the Coeur d'Alene metro-statistical area ~ Kootenai County, including Post Falls and Hayden ~ placed 2nd on the Milken Institute's Best Performing Small Cities list for 2008, up four points from last year's 6th place finish. "Coeur d'alene is not a secret anymore.
