Did you know Coeur d'Alene has an urban forest? That should come as no surprise to anyone who has marveled at the beauty of the magnificent trees around town. I've blogged about Coeur d'Alene's urban forest from time to time over the years. The Urban Forestry division of the Coeur d'Alene Parks Department just announced that free trees valued at $250 are available to homeowners residing within the city limits of Coeur d’Alene who are willing to provide care for the trees, including watering and protecting from mowers and trimmers. Trees will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Street trees will be planted at residential (2 comments)

I took the opportunity to hike around Tubbs Hill on a "field trip" with my fellow exercise boot campers. It was a lovely morning for a hike in our own urban forest. Tubbs Hill is located in downtown Coeur d'Alene. The natural trail winds along through the forest, overlooking beautiful Coeur d'Alene Lake. Hiking the circular main trail will take you along just under two miles of breathtaking scenery. The trail begins at the 3rd Street (2 comments)

Did you know that it is the responsibility of every property owner to assist in the care of our city's trees? Coeur d'Alene's Urban Forestry ordinance sets tree care standards and gives guidelines for the care and maintenance of all public trees and shrubs. Public trees include all those growing in the city rights of way such as the grassy area between the sidewalk and (1 comments)
