relocation: Soundtrack of a Lifetime, 2020, Day 28 Buble' - 06/23/20 06:24 PM
We have heard a lot of old songs on the Soundtrack. So today I decided to feature something more modern. I don’t often accept new music into my Soundtrack unless I think it is worthy of my discriminating palette. A few years ago I was introduced to Michael Buble and even though it was outside my comfort zone, I listened and began to enjoy many of his songs. Buble made his mark singing a lot of the old standards using the big band format. Consequently, he appeals to pop audiences more than rock listeners. Yet, you cannot deny his talent or … (6 comments)

relocation: Soundtrack of a Lifetime - 2020, Day 24 Michael Jackson - 06/20/20 08:38 AM

Let’s switch gears and jump forward to the 1980s. Michael Jackson is one of the most controversial artists of the modern era. Growing up as a child star with his family, The Jackson Five, made it nearly impossible for him to grow up in what we might call a normal life. He certainly had his problems trying to navigate his demons. Which led to his premature death in 2009.
But no one can deny that Michael was an enormous musical talent. He redefined pop music time and time again.
Many of his songs and albums top the charts and broke sales records … (1 comments)

relocation: Soundtrack of a Lifetime - 2020, Day 17 ZZ Top - 06/10/20 07:49 PM

Some rock bands just project fun. While on one hand, you must recognize their talent and dedication, on the other it may be hard to take them seriously. One such band is That Little Ol' Band From Texas known as ZZ Top. The band, comprised of Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard captured our attention with their hard rock/Texas-style blues.
Their personas include long bushy beards, dark glasses, and a variety of hats. Even their guitars were different. Their guitars were attached to their belt buckles. With an electrical connection that allows them to spin the guitar at their waist.
The band … (2 comments)

relocation: This is Why We are Irrational In Times Like These - 05/27/20 10:42 AM
Excellent article by Robert Siciliano
Though we, as humans, are supposed to be pretty smart, we do a lot of things that might not seem rational.
For example, we do things like text and drive, we don’t get flu shots that can stop us from getting sick, and we hoard things like toilet paper…Dan Ariely, a professor from Duke University, has some reasons for this.
Ariely has released a book called “Predictable Irrational,” and it takes a look at why we do these irrational things…especially in a time of crisis. One of the most mind-boggling things is why we have all … (2 comments)

relocation: I Never Get to Hug My Home Inspector Anymore - 05/23/20 10:04 AM
There was a time when I hugged everyone that I liked. Of course that practice is no longer acceptable, heck it might even be dangerous. So social distancing and proper precautions are the practice we must follow today.
For about ten years I would recommend one home inspector above all others. The company, a man and wife team, (she did the office, he the inspections) did an exemplary job. His credentials included being a licensed civil engineer and many years’ experience as a certified inspector. His wife ran a tight ship in the office. She always made sure that the house was … (8 comments)

relocation: The Golden Door - 05/17/20 09:35 AM
“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”. ― Emma Lazarus
This quote by American poet Emma Lazarus which is emblazed on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty exemplifies the ultimate Welcome Home sign. It says to everyone that approaches it, “Please enter and make this place your new home.”
So now you are trying to sell your home. You want to make a good impression. Shouldn’t every visitor to your home should be treated … (20 comments)

relocation: It is not as easy as it looks. - 05/13/20 06:25 PM

Ah yes, the life of a Real Estate Agent. It looks easy. Big money, little risk, wealthy clients that are easy to please. Or so it seems.
The average Real Estate Agent longs for the situation described above. In reality, the work is inconsistent, and the clients are demanding, unsure, and fickle. Yet we champion on because that is what we do.
Most people think that being a real estate agent is about sales. But selling is only one component in the job description. Other times you must be an analyst, a detective, sometimes a babysitter.
Every real estate agent has had their share … (5 comments)

relocation: Memories that last a lifetime. - 04/20/20 07:17 PM
Moving is a stressful time. It becomes even more stressful when you have lived in a home for a long time and have acquired a lot of stuff and made a lot of memories.
We just completed the first leg of a move out of a house that we called home for 19 years. Going through all your belongings and deciding what to keep and what to dispose of is difficult. Both my wife and I were forced to shed many items that while still perfectly good no longer have a purpose in our lives.
Whenever you perform a move of this nature … (10 comments)

relocation: Will the tide go out on Real Estate? - 04/16/20 07:53 PM
How will the economic downturn caused by the Corona Virus pandemic affect real estate? Well, in the absence of a crystal ball I can only predict that there will be a slowdown. How deep will the market slide? It is probably too early to tell.
Real estate for the last few years has been easy. Property values have risen steadily, construction resumed big time in many areas of the country, and interest rates have fallen to all-time lows. All the while, lending practices for many types of loan programs became more liberal. Collectively all these factors made selling homes easy.
As a result, … (9 comments)

relocation: What’s the worst that can happen? - 04/05/20 06:58 PM
These are trying times no question about it. The world is in turmoil and it seems there is no safe-haven that we can reflect upon.
During these difficult times, I am reminded of a quote by author and speaker Dale Carnegie. Carnegie took the formula drafted by engineer and inventor Willis H. Carrier and brought it to life in his books, lectures and training classes.
In his book “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living.” Carnegie penned the quote:
“First ask yourself: What is the worst that can happen? Then prepare to accept it. Then proceed to improve on the worst.”
 Well, for … (10 comments)

relocation: Do you really want to be a rock star? - 07/04/19 08:19 PM
Over and over I see want ads imploring, “Help wanted Rock Star…”.
No doubt the portrait we have painted of a Rock Star appears to glamorous, successful, even desirable. But in reality, Rock Stars as a group are seldom successful and when they are their success is fleeting. They seldom get to enjoy the very thing that makes them a star and that is their passion.
Being a Rock Star may have some reward. They often leave behind a legacy. Their music, stories, events that they have participated in, may live on long after their star has extinguished.
However, if you really want long … (6 comments)

relocation: Disclosure vs. Discovery – There is a difference. - 07/02/19 06:52 AM

When should a seller disclose material facts that could affect the marketable value of a home? That, of course, is a trick question. The answer is always.
However, does the receipt of a home inspection report immediately require an update of the Seller Disclosure documents? Well, not always.
Let’s start by explaining the disclosure and inspection processes in AZ:
Whenever a house is placed on the market the Seller is required by law to disclose known facts (including history) of the property. We use a Sellers Disclosure form for that purpose. Upon receipt, the Buyer has 5 days to examine the Sellers Disclosure and … (20 comments)

relocation: Soundtrack of a Lifetime - 2019, Day 29 Etta James - 06/21/19 05:39 PM
Well, we have heard a lot of old songs this month. Some are oldies that have a definite sound that remind us of a particular time period that we remember but is now gone. Then there are old songs that still sound as fresh today as the day they were recorded. One of those songs that I enjoy listening to despite its age is At Last by Etta James.
James who crossed the line often between blues, jazz and rock was one of those timeless performers. Despite a difficult life that included numerous bouts with drug addictions she found a way … (3 comments)

relocation: Soundtrack of a Lifetime - 2019, Day 24 Neil Diamond - 06/18/19 11:16 AM
Neil Diamond is an other performer that achieved early success as a songwriter then later became a renowned on-stage performer and actor.
Neil has had 10 number one singles and 38 songs in the Top Ten.
With great songs like Cracklin' Rose, Song Sung Blue and America his music has spanned the generations. It is amazing how popular he is with an audience of younger patrons, many of whom were not born when his songs were released.
Diamond has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time
Neil Diamond was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of … (1 comments)

relocation: Scottsdale Treasures - Don Bluth Front Row Theatre - 06/14/19 01:23 PM

Scottsdale Arizona is a place that is often recognized for outdoor activities such as golf or hiking. But Scottsdale has so much more to offer than outdoor activities. I have lived and worked in Scottsdale for 18 years. Still, I am always finding new adventures and activities that remind me why we relocated here. I call them hidden treasures.
One such hidden treasure is the Don Bluth Front Row Theatre. For over ten years, the cast members have been performing insightful comedies and musicals that have delighted audiences both young and old. Located just off Shea Blvd and the Loop 101 Freeway, … (1 comments)

relocation: Soundtrack of a Lifetime – 2019, Day 13 Alice Cooper - 06/08/19 01:34 PM
Everybody likes a nice guy, even if he doesn't always act like a nice guy.
Alice Cooper is a Rock & Roll icon that latched onto the Shock Rock craze of the 70s along with the likes of Arthur Brown, Marilyn Manson and metal group Black Sabbath among others.
Originally created as a band the lead singer, Vincent Damon Furnier, later took on the name as his own. Furnier who lives in Phoenix, AZ is, despite his bad guy image, a nice guy that is involved in numerous charities. Cooper and his wife were instrumental in the creation of The Rock Teen Center … (5 comments)

relocation: Soundtrack of a Lifetime – 2019, Day 7 Sugarland - 06/01/19 07:47 PM
The Soundtrack isn’t just about oldies. It also isn’t just about rock music. There are a lot of great bands and songs that come from all genus. Sometimes you just hear something that you like and it brings you joy. It may be R&B, Jazz or Country.
Have you ever had the chance to see a band play live just before they broke onto the national scene? I have been fortunate to see several. One band that I was fortunate to see in 2003 before they made it big is Sugarland. Sugarland is a country music band that consisted of guitarist Kristen … (2 comments)

relocation: Soundtrack of a Lifetime – 2019, Day 6 Righteous Bros - 06/01/19 09:04 AM
In 1964 Soul music was still very much the most popular genre for pop singers. The Beatles and the British Invasion was just starting to sweep the nation, but a lot of people still liked listening to what was then termed blue eyed soul. The duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, who called themselves The Righteous Brothers, released a song produced by Phil Specter titled "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin". It became a number one hit in both the U.S. and the U.K.
"You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" has the claim of being the most-played song in the history of American … (3 comments)

relocation: Soundtrack of a Lifetime – 2019, Day 4 Smokey - 05/28/19 08:21 PM
Smokey Robinson is one of the founding creators of the Motown sound.
Starting out with the singing group The Miracles, Smokey became one of the first acts signed to the Motown label. In fact, he had actually been friends with Barry Gordy since before the formation of Motown Records. In late 1960, The Miracles recorded their first hit single, Shop Around, which became Motown's first million-selling hit record.
Smokey Robinson ultimately would produce 26 top forty hits as the lead singer for The Miracles. He also was a prolific songwriter and producer. Between 1960 and 1970, the group released other top ten hits … (3 comments)

relocation: Soundtrack of a Lifetime – 2019, Day 2 Santana - 05/23/19 09:21 PM
One of the icons of Rock that has continued to maintain his relevance for over 50 years is Carlos Santana. Santana ranks up there in my book as one of the finest guitar players around. From his debut album Santana, released in 1969, on up to his 9 times Grammy-winning album Supernatural he continues to demonstrate his remarkable talent.
Carlos Santana and his band were one of the headline performers at the original Woodstock Music and Art Fair. This year Bethel Woods, the site of the historic Woodstock festival will host a series of concerts to celebrate the 50th anniversary. The lineup … (5 comments)
