Yesterday, 9/19/2013, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.50% down from 4.57% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.54%, down from 3.59 last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.49%. Bet some of you are sorry you did not buy back then. Freddie Mac's Vice President said, "Mortgage rates drifted downwards this week amid signs of a weakening economic recovery. Today, 8/29/2013, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.51% down from 4.58% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.54%, down from 3.60% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.59%. Apparently some experts think that the gradual increase in mortgage interest rates had some effect on new home sales in July. This is making them believe that perhaps the Federal Reserve will not be so quick to allow rates to rise a lot in the near future. Last Monday, students and teachers will return to their classes in the public schools of Pasco County, Florida for the 2013-2014 academic year. When I opened my mailbox today (8/16/2013) I found a letter from Mike Wells, the Pasco County Property Appraiser where I live, telling me what my proposed property taxes for 2013 would likely be. Today, 8/1/2013, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.39% up from 4.31% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.43%, up from 3.39% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.55%. Rates seem to be hovering around the same spot for the past few weeks. Still very low and they make homes more affordable for those who qualify with their credit histories. Today, 7/18/2013, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.31% down from 4.37% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.39%, down from 3.41% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.49%. So, another week with a small drop in rates. But I would not "bet the farm" that we are going to see them get back to the 3.6% range any time soon. That ship has probably sailed. Today, 7/18/2013, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.37% down from 4.51% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.41%, down from 3.53% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.53%. Even though rates are still well above the LOW levels they were just a few weeks ago, at least the rapid upward movement has abated a bit this week. Today, 6/27/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.46% up from 3.93% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.50%, up from 3.04% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.66%. Yesterday, I posted that this huge leap in rates was not unexpected and had been rumored since very late last week. If you recall, last week there was no "commentary" from a Freddie Mac spokesperson, as had always been the case. Even right now, last weeks press release has no commentary.
