Freddie Mac's spokesperson said,"Fixed mortgage rates eased a bit for the fifth consecutive week as reports that existing home sales are up 1.3 percent but not as much as expected. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.31%, up from 3.29% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.39%. My guess is that the uncertainty caused by the GOP's inablility to bring a continuing budget resolution to a vote. Markets don't like unknowns, just as people don't like them. We like to have an idea of what is ahead. Shutting down the government is not a reassuring action.
