freddie mac: Mortgage Interest Rates Drop Again after Rising a Bit Last Week! - 03/21/13 07:49 AM

Freddie Mac's Vice President said that low inflation rates which have been relatively stable for some time have created downward pressure on interest rates. This has been the case a LONG time. For ages the rates have been under 4%. The consumer price index (CPI) has been below 2% or just at that level for 12 weeks. The … (0 comments)

freddie mac: Mortgage Rates Move Very Little This Week - Stay Historically Low! - 03/07/13 07:25 AM
Today, 3/7/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.52%  up very slightly from 3.51% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.76%, unchanged from last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.88%.
Freddie Mac's Vice President said, "With gross domestic product growing only 0.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2012, inflation remains at bay and consequently mortgage rates low. In fact, the price index of personal consumption expenditures rose only 0.1 percent in January which was below the market consensus forecast. Moreover, these low mortgage rates are helping … (0 comments)

freddie mac: After Small Rise Last Week, Mortgage Interest Rates Fall Again - 02/28/13 07:05 AM
Today, 2/28/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.51%  up from 3.56% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.76%, down from 2.77% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.90%.
Freddie Mac indicated that due to a steady level by the consumer price index (CPI) interest rates went down a bit. Lack of  consumer inflation usually seems to encourage lower rates, from what I have observed. However, some things did become more expensive. Freddie Mac reported that house prices had shown gains last year, 2012, with that national home … (0 comments)

freddie mac: No Change in Mortgage Interest Rates for 3rd Straight Week! - 02/14/13 06:50 AM

freddie mac: Good Economic News Means Higher Mortgage Rates this Week - 01/31/13 07:49 AM
Today, 1/31/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.53%  up from 3.42% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.81%, up from 2.71% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.87%.
If you remember, in months past I have pondered that it was curious how when the economy was doing badly interest rates dropped. And when things started to improve, rates went back up again. Well, this week that proved true once again. Freddie Mac's spokesperson said that rates continued to climb during the past week due … (0 comments)

freddie mac: Little Movement of Average Mortgage Interest Rates Prior to Holidays - 12/20/12 08:26 AM
Today, 12/20/2012  Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.37% barely up from 3.32% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.65%, up from 2.66% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.94%.
As we approach the holidays, there is very little change in the interest rates for mortgages. Just minor fluctuations. Still very VERY low. Take advantage of them if you can. They will not last forever. So have a Merry Christmas and buy that new home you have been waiting for. Opportunities are not likely to get any … (0 comments)

freddie mac: Just Tiny Upward Movement of Mortgage Interest Rates This Week - 12/06/12 06:13 AM
Today, 12/6/2012  Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.34% up from 3.32% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.67%, up from 2.64% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.99%.
Another week of just small movements of interest rates. I almost wonder if having the uncertainty of the election behind us has caused this "doldrum" for mortgages. I also wonder if Washington does not take financial matters in hand and stop fighting over a middle class tax break will cause uncertainty to return. They can work on … (0 comments)

freddie mac: Average Mortgage Interest Rates Rise Just a Tad this Time - 11/01/12 05:51 AM
Today, 11/1/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.39% down barely from 3.41% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.70%, down from 2.72% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.00%.
Again, another week of little change. I heard on the news today that several economic indicators will be coming out tomorrow and we will have to wait and see how those affect the interest rates. Also, big election next week. What will buyers' and sellers' perceptions of the outcome do to the markets. Hopefully, only positive … (0 comments)

freddie mac: Average Mortgage Interest Rates Mostly Unchanged This Week - 10/18/12 09:44 AM
Today, 10/18/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.37% down barely from 3.39% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.66%, down from 2.70% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.11%.
Another week of very little change in mortgage interest rates. However, it is good news that they are staying historically low. This helps buyers get the homes they want and makes it easier for sellers to get qualified buyers. That is a big part of the reason why our inventories in many parts of the country … (0 comments)

freddie mac: Little Change in Average Mortgage Rates This Week Despite Good News - 10/11/12 08:31 AM
Today, 10/11/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.39% up barely from 3.36% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.70%, up from 2.69% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.12%.
For all intents and purposes, there was no real change in the rates. The unemployment figures last week were good, but had minimal effect. Just as well. Often good news makes the rates go up. So buyers, take this as a warning. Next week, we could see higher numbers again. We will just have to wait … (0 comments)

Not long ago the Federal Reserve said it was going to buy up mortgage-backed securities. And true to their word, they did. This caused the desired effect of making interest rates fall. That should help supplement an improving housing market in the United States. Buyers AND sellers both benefit when mortgage rates are low.
Here are some … (0 comments)

freddie mac: Mortgage Interest Rates Mostly Unchanged for Second Week - 09/13/12 07:36 AM

For a second week, there was very little change in average mortgage interest rates. Today, the Federal Reservie reported that it would keep interest rates low for the forseeable future and would be buying back "mortgage-backed" securities also known as Quantitavie Easing in an effort to further stimulate the economy. Though it is a slow recovery, we are … (0 comments)

freddie mac: Mortgage Interest Rates Mostly Unchanged - Still Historically Low! - 09/06/12 06:49 AM

This week, there was very little change in average mortgage interest rates. From what I have heard on the network news shows, tomorrow positive employment figures are supposed to come out. This may have the effect of raising the rates a bit as treasure bonds go up. We will have to wait and … (0 comments)

freddie mac: Mortage Interest Rates Decrease after a Month of Increases - 08/30/12 09:52 AM

Finally after several weeks of gradual increases, interest rates headed south for Labor Day. Well below the 4% mark and that means savings for years for those of you who can take advantage of them and purchase a home now. Over the long haul you would be amazed at the tens of … (0 comments)

freddie mac: Three Weeks of Increases in Average Mortgage Interest Rates - 08/16/12 07:06 AM
Today, 8/16/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.62%, up from last week when it was 3.59%. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.88%, up from 2.84% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.15%.
After 3 straight weeks of increases, it appears that a trend may no be showing itself. Could it be that in the weeks to come we will see more increases? That is very possible. Reports also say that home prices are rising. Long ago I said that at some point both the low … (0 comments)
