Today, 7/22/10,  Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.56% (4.59% in the southeast), down from 4.57% a week ago. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.03%, down from 4.06% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 5.20%. These are record lows for the Freddie Mac survey which is nearly 40 years old! Wish my own mortgage had rates like these. Why are people waiting?

The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.07%, down from 4.04% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 5.20%. Lower interest rates continue to make homes very affordable, along with the very reasonable home prices in many parts of the country.

Today 6/17/10, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.75% (4.74% in the southeast), up from 4.72% a week ago. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.20%, up from 4.17% last week. A year ago the average 30 year rate was 5.39%!
As I noted in previous posts, housing starts and new home permits were down last month. Also, home builders are less optimistic about the near future, in regard to the housing market. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.20%, down from 4.21% last week. A year ago the average 30 year rate was 5.29%. Still well below 5%! For the past four months mortgage interest rates for 30 year fixed-rate loans have hovered right around the 5% mark. Historically very low. Today 4/8/10, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 5.21% (5.15% in the southeast), up from 5.08% a week ago. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.52%, up from 4.39% last week. A year ago the average 30 year rate was 4.87%. Just a couple of weeks ago it had been well below 5%!

Since interest rates on fixed-rate loans are still historically low, many people are taking the opportunity to refinance their homes and lower their payments.
