Today, 6/11/2015, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.04%up from 3.87% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.25%, up from 3.08% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.20%. Freddie Mac's spokesperson said, "Mortgage rates rose above 4 percent for the first time since November 2014 as Treasury yields surged. Markets are responding to strong employment data. Today, 3/27/2014, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.40 up from 4.32% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.42%, up from 3.32% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.57%. Freddie Mac's spokesperson said, "Mortgage rates rose following the uptick on the 10-year Treasury note after comments by the Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet Yellen indicated a possible increase in interest rates as soon as early 2015.
