Today, 6/11/2015, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.04%up from 3.87% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.25%, up from 3.08% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.20%. Freddie Mac's spokesperson said, "Mortgage rates rose above 4 percent for the first time since November 2014 as Treasury yields surged. Markets are responding to strong employment data. In May, the U.S. economy added 280,000 jobs. Moreover, job openings surged to 5.4 million in April, up over 20 percent from a year ago." Do keep in mind (0 comments)

Today, 3/27/2014, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.40 up from 4.32% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.42%, up from 3.32% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.57%. Freddie Mac's spokesperson said, "Mortgage rates rose following the uptick on the 10-year Treasury note after comments by the Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet Yellen indicated a possible increase in interest rates as soon as early 2015. Also, the S&P/Case-Shiller® 20-city composite house price index rose 13.2 percent over the 12-months ending in January (0 comments)
