Today, 7/24/2014, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.13% unchanged from 4.13% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.26%, up a little from 3.23% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.31%. Freddie Mac's spokesperson said, "Mortgage rates were little changed for the week with the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage remaining unchanged. Meanwhile, we received some good news on housing with existing home sales climbing 2.6 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.04 million in June, the highest pace since October 2013." Today, 11/29/2012 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.32% up from 3.31% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.64%, down from 2.63% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.00%. Hardly any change worth mentioning this week. Just a tad up and that is all. The low rate bonanza for many is continuing. What is down is inventory. Today, 10/18/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.37% down barely from 3.39% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.66%, down from 2.70% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.11%. Another week of very little change in mortgage interest rates. However, it is good news that they are staying historically low. This helps buyers get the homes they want and makes it easier for sellers to get qualified buyers. Today, 8/9/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.59%, up from last week when it was 3.55%. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.84%, up from 2.83% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.32%. Two weeks ago I asked if we had finally reached a "bottom". Now we have had two weeks in a row of increases! The rates could not keep going down forever and perhaps we have found the low point finally.
