zephyrhills: Will Hurricane Matthew Visit Florida? Be Prepared Just in Case!

As of today, 10/2/2016, Hurricane Matthew, a Category 4, storm is still south of Cuba, but is predicted to make a northerly turn shortly. As you can see in the above image, its projected path has it moving in a northerly direction, skirting Florida's east coast on Thursday and Friday of this week. However, that is a long way off in the life of a hurricane, so anything is possible. We certainly hope that the forecasts are correct and that it does not move to a more westerly track taking it right up the center of the state.

This is the track of Tropical Storm Hermine as it approaches Florida's gulf coast on Thursday afternoon on September 1, 2016. It appears that it may turn into a hurricane briefly before hitting land. Then it changes back to a tropical storm. With those we are not worried so much about high winds (unless you live on the coast) but with the heavy rain which can cause flooding.

When I opened my mailbox today (8/22/2016 I found a letter from Mike Wells, the Pasco County Property Appraiser where I live, telling me what my proposed property taxes for 2016 would likely be. Probably most of Florida's residents are also receiving these notices, also called Truth in Millage (TRIM). notices. It is worth your while to closely examine the one that pertains to the property(s) that you own.
The notice will show you 3 main things:

Today, November 30th, is the official "last day" of the 2015 Hurricane Season. Though it sometimes happens, it is very unlikely that a storm will form now. The waters of the Atlantic Ocean are just too cool. And warm water is what powers these massive storms.We did not even get a decent tropical storm this year that affected our area. Earlier in the summer we did have an abundance of rain, but not from any hurricanes or other major storms.

Today, 11/25/2015, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.95% down from 3.97% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.18%, unchanged from last week. A year ago the average rate for a 30 year fixed-rate loan was 3.97%.
A Freddie Mac spokesperson stated:

Today, 10/29/2015, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.76% down from 3.79% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.98%, unchanged from last week. A year ago the average rate for a 30 year fixed-rate loan was 3.98%.
A Freddie Mac spokesperson stated:
"Treasury yields oscillated without a clear direction heading into the October FOMC meeting, as investors were confident there would be no rate increase.
