Over 4500 people volunteered their time, energy, enthusiasm, money, materials and most of all their hearts to give the Voisine Family of New Hampshire a new home back in October 2007. Some of you may remember that I went to jail just before Thanksgiving. For those who don't remember, you can read about it on my post "have you ever been to jail?". Anyway, my group, Vox Jubilante, received a letter addressed to the prison chaplin today and I wanted to share a bit of it here with you. My prayer after this experience was that these men would remember the music and somehow it would help them. I'll preface this post by saying that I didn't commit a crime or anything like that. I chose to go to jail tonight with a few of my closest friends. We sing in an ensemble called "Vox Jubilante" and we do things differently from your average singing group. We like to go where others don't even think about going. We went to the VA Hospital in Manchester, NH last month to welcome home some of the soldiers from Iraq. Check out my blog from that visit. But this was different......we went to jail. Why you ask? Today I journeyed to the Manchester, NH VA Hospital to attend the "Welcome Home" ceremony for our soldiers recently returned home from Iraq. My husband, Mike, and I sing in an ensemble called "vox jubilante" which means joyous voices. We were asked to sing for this event where many dignitaries from the state including Governor Lynch would be in attendance. The time for our appearance was scheduled from 11:45am to 1:00pm. When we arrived at 11:00am the room was crowdedwith people chatting, raffle tables selling their chances and a band playing. OK, so what do I know about volunteering? Well, I do know that volunteering is not a mandatory thing, it is a giving of one self in service to a cause greater than oneself. We all volunteer in one way or another. Well, I got the opportunity to volunteer on a project to build a home for a family that was up against it recently. I didn't work on building the house, I helped the actual builder in his office so his staff would be free to do what they do best.
