grateful: Serendipity Sunday ... Spring Fever is In the Air!!! - 01/18/15 05:59 AM

It was so beautiful here in the Carolinas today that I had to get out into my flower gardens and spend some quality time.  I think spring fever is in the air.  It was a sunny 58 degrees.

My focus today was to deadhead all of the dead frozen tops from all of the peonies in the peony garden.  The biggest surprise was seeing the new growth beginning to show in the soil.  I hope the peonies do not come up so soon that they get frozen back for we are still in winter.

Today was definitely a serendipity … (17 comments)

grateful: So Grateful .. No Need to Travel This Christmas/Thankful To Be Home! - 12/23/14 09:49 AM

For years I drove to Ormond Beach, Florida to be with family for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Within a month I would make this trip twice from Charlotte, NC and it was always a 7.5 to 8 hour drive depending on weather.  Sometimes longer if issues on I-77, I-26 or I-95.  At times I was ready to spit bullets for the trip was so very frustrating.

This evening it is 44 degrees here in Charlotte, NC and is raining and very foggy.  If I was heading south it would be dark and I would be traveling on wet roads … (10 comments)

grateful: Where to Eat in Charlotte, NC on Thanksgiving! - 11/20/14 12:41 AM

I have never gone out to eat at a restaurant on Thanksgiving for I enjoy preparing a great dinner for family and friends.  I love how it makes our house smell with all of the foods being prepared plus I enjoy the fellowship as well as the many delicious left overs.

I have many friends who prefer to go out .. eat and enjoy ... and not be bothered with the preparation and clean up.

I checked the site Open Table and here are some great choices for your Thanksgiving meal.

grateful: Serendipity Sunday/ Spending Time Together Making Ginger Cookies! - 11/16/14 07:22 AM

Last evening I got out an old family recipe and mixed the dough so that my 91 year old mother and I could roll out and bake a few dozen cookies today.

The best part of this entire experience was having my mother join me in the kitchen.  She has to use a walker, so I set up the pastry board, rolling pin, cookie cutters and flour at the table so that she could sit and roll out the dough.  I helped her with her apron and she was ready.  She rolled out and cut out the first … (15 comments)

grateful: Serendipity Sunday .. Enjoying Inside Blooms! - 11/08/14 11:12 PM

We have two Christmas / Thanksgiving cactus that I set outside each spring on our covered patio.  As soon as it starts getting cooler I move them inside to our kitchen.

This one was a new little plant that I transplanted into this pot the fall of 2012.  Look at it now.  Now is the time to purchase a small plant and this is what you will have a year to two years later.  I need to go and purchase a white one.  We have this color as well as an apricot colored cactus.

grateful: A Frosty Morning in Charlotte, NC!! - 11/02/14 10:29 PM

This morning we awakened to a very frosty morning in Charlotte, NC.  The low was 26 degrees and the ground was covered with white but thankfully it was frost and not snow.

I took our dogs out and they were quick to return to the warmth of our home.

This is the perfect morning to enjoy a great cup of coffee and work from the comfort of my home office.  I am so grateful.

Have a great day and enjoy.
