slidell louisiana homes for sale: Local Supermarkets - 09/15/08 12:05 PM
I know how everyone loves to bitch about the insurance companies denying claims.  I have another twist here for you.  When I came back home after hurricane Gustav we were without electricity for over a day.  Rather than take a chance I threw out all the food in my freezer and refrigerator.  I didn't have all that much in there since it was storm season.  Past experiences taught me this.  Anyway my mom informed me of something I had missed.  None of the supermarkets in the area had any sales.  They knew almost everyone would have to restock their food supply … (2 comments)

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Storm Recap - 09/15/08 10:57 AM
I wanted to show my friends what Gustav thought of my utility shed.  I am two for two on these things.  Katrina ate the first one and Gustav got this one.

I really didn't like it very much.  Hit my head on it all the time.  Here are some photos of my dads home who lives on Carr Drive in Slidell Louisiana near Lake Pontchartrain.  This home had water underneath for Katrina but was high and dry inside.

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Take a Hike Ike - 09/12/08 05:52 AM
I was driving back from Hammond to Slidell Louisiana this morning.  I noticed a large quantity of storm related assets moving West towards Texas.  I had no doubt as to where this equipment was headed.  I saw numerous generators, ambulances and electrical workers headed that way.  I saw several 18-wheelers carrying transformers.  No country can out produce us whenour capitalism markets come into action.  I must FEMA and private corporations for moving these products in advance.  This is one of the few times I believe the government has a place in our lives.  I believe the constitution applies in this case … (4 comments)

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Property Taxes - 09/10/08 08:39 AM
Residents of St. Tammany parish have until September 15th to view their property taxes for the next tax year.  You can find them online or go to one of the two locations in the parish.  The tax assessors has said that values have gone up.  I wonder if she took in effect the latest year of prices into consideration?  I would hate to see them do with less money.

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Purple Kitchens Anyone??? - 08/12/08 03:29 AM
I found this picture when doing a search of new listings.  I think it's easier to sell a home when the tastes are more conservative.  This kitchen is far from that.  I would have told this seller to repaint this kitchen.  Just wondering what the active rain members thoughts are on this one.

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Change - 08/07/08 11:57 AM
No not that kind (Obama).  I mean real change that is upon us now.  Whether you like it or not it's here.  We get comfortable and lazy.  We are creatures of comfort right?  What am I trying to say?  Good question.  As Jim Crawford has said these are not normal times.  What worked in the past usually doesn't work now.  We have to talk to as many people as we can.  Let them know what you do for a living.  Times are a changing and you had better accept it.

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Lot for sale with old slab - 07/30/08 03:50 AM
I have been in contact with a potential client from Virginia.  She had a home in the Quail Ridge subdivision in Slidell Louisiana.  The home never flooded but most of the neighborhood did from Katrina.  The home itself was crushed by trees.  The owner was in Germany at the time and had the home torn down.  She had the land with slab listed for over 18 months.  The agent had recommended that she leave the slab so someone else could build on it.  How many people do you know are going to build the exact type of house.  Also do we … (4 comments)

slidell louisiana homes for sale: How to Lower Insurance Premiums - 07/14/08 04:50 AM
I just spoke to my Liberty Mutual representative this morning.  Naturally Iwas seeking a way to lower my premiums.  I raised the deductible, no secret there.  However I learned that a four year college degree gets you an additional 5% discount as long as belonging to a credit union.  I received a 10% discount on top of raising my deductibles.  I also learned that doing a bank draft will save you the monthly fee they add on to the bill.  These discounts apply to my homeowners also.  Fellow rainers don't put this off.  Call your insurance company and find out if they … (13 comments)

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Inflation No Problem - 05/15/08 02:39 AM
I watched the CPI numbers come out yesterday morning up two tenths of a point.  That is when they strip out volatile food and energy.  So what is going down, computers, televisions, appliances and other consumer durables.  Well golly gosh gee, I can't eat computers or drive my television around town showing clients houses can I?  But I do have to eat and buy gas.  So I as well as you know that inflation in the things that we need to live with are going up rather quickly.  Nothing hurts consumers more than run away inflation.  This will take time to … (1 comments)

slidell louisiana homes for sale: 10,000 For Buying A House - 05/11/08 12:50 AM
The politicians that we all love or love to hate, have come up with a new plan to help encourage people to buy homes.  They want to give buyers $10,000 when they buy a house.  Good idea or bad idea?  I really don't like the government in anything.  I personally feel energy prices are to blame more than anything.  As long as gas keeps going up more than a penny a day.  We need gas to at least stop increasing in price to make consumers feel more confident.

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Wait A Year - 05/01/08 07:54 AM
I have been working with a recent widow the past couple of weeks.  One thing she keeps bringing up in conversation is she wants to wait a year.  Either she read or was told to wait a year after a traumatic event to make a major decision.  I agree with this advice completely.  One day she is ready to look and the next day she wants to wait.  I am being patient with her.  I am not going to rush her at all.  I don't push any of my clients to make a decision.  This I think is a good rule … (11 comments)

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Don't Drill For Oil By Me - 04/26/08 05:06 AM
I had to laugh at the vening news last night with all the complaining about high gas prices.  Especially when some commuters live a hundred miles away and drive SUV's or large trucks.  You think we are spoiled?  We lived where ever we wanted and didn't give a second thought about gas prices.
Our politicians and enviromentalists ahve sold us down the street with drilling.  Don't drill in California or Florida because you might ruin our vies or nice beaches.  Well guess what Florida.  China is drilling 60 miles off your cost with Cuba.  Guess where that oil will go if there … (19 comments)

slidell louisiana homes for sale: What Happened to Interest Rates? - 04/18/08 01:36 PM
I realize after this week money poured out of bonds and into the stock markets.  The result was a drop in bond price and a rise in interest rates.  I really wonder if we will ever be able to level off in both stocks and bonds.  I really don't like all this whip sawing back and forth.  Makes it very hard to predict the next week, much less the next six months. … (3 comments)

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Give it Up? - 04/14/08 06:57 AM
I keep seeing more and more personalized blog sites for active rain.  I have searched and can't seem to find the secret.  Can someone be nice enough to guide me to the site?  I have noticed some have pictures at the top and some just have color.  I really like the look it gives to the reader. … (5 comments)

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Hummingbird Magnets - 04/12/08 10:59 AM
With the arrival of Spring also come the Hummingbirds.  I have a picture here of a bottlebrush tree that i took today.  This tree is a native of Australia.  I don't know the temperature hardiness of it, but it sure attracts hummingbirds.  You know these creatures can't resist the color of red.  I would love to hear what others use to attract these birds.

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Question?????????? - 04/09/08 12:14 PM
That's right another question.  I am no longer receiving email when members comment on my blogs.  Has any one else noticed this?  Or did I turn something off and don't realize this?  I have checked all my settings and everything seems fine.  Let this computer dummy know if it's me or the rain. … (3 comments)

slidell louisiana homes for sale: Locks of Love - 04/09/08 11:11 AM
My teenage daughter cut her hair today.  First time she cut it in about two years.  She donated the hair to Locks of Love.  What a great thing to do for others who have lost their hair through disease or other reasons.  My wife and I would like to think we had some influence on her for doing this.  Maybe so, but ultimately it was her doing.  Just another way for people to help others feel better about themselves. … (8 comments)
