columbus ohio home inspectors: Inspect the Inspector - 09/30/09 08:04 AM
I just ran across this article and would like to share with those of you that are in states that do not require the licensing of Home Inspectors.
Here is the link: http://www.canada.com/life/inspect+your+home+inspector/2050469/story.html
Again this is for the states that have no regulations. Not for those who have qualified Home Inspectors.
Is Mike Holmes out of line in what he says or does he bring up good points?
Anyone who knows me knows my opinions.
I would like to here your opinions.

columbus ohio home inspectors: Over Qualified! - 05/13/07 01:59 PM
I can not believe that there are Realtors that would not hire someone because they know too much.
In my area there is a Realtor in the Delaware Ohio area that will not use me. WHY? Because I might find something. She has never used me nor has she ever seen one of my reports.
Is she more concerned about making money? I guess her clients are well represented!
Should I mention her name?
Thoughts about this???

columbus ohio home inspectors: Free Home Inspections - 03/24/07 10:17 AM
I am giving free home inspections away for a price.
Sounds like some of the scams that want to give you $15,000,000.00.
I thought it was time to lighten up for a minute.
I give no discounts, or freebies, for my work.
Having me is a discount in and of itself.
I know that sounds arogant but I have the credentials to justify that statement.
If I charge the same as an un-certified person, isn't that a discount enough?
Being certified I have nothing to prove. It is what it is.
Being certified I can explain to your client how important or not important something is.

columbus ohio home inspectors: Vacant homes - 03/24/07 01:06 AM
With all the rain that we have had lately in Ohio I thought I would share this with you.
Check the sump pumps in your vacant listings.
This is NOT legal advice.
This is from the 2006 Residential Code of Ohio:
115.2 Maintenance. Residential buildings, structures and the building equipment shall be maintained in a safe and sanitary condition and in accordance with the condition(s) established in current and any previous plan approvals and certificates of occupancy. Devices or safeguards which are required by this code shall be maintained in conformance with the code edition under which installed. The owner or the owner's designated agent … (0 comments)

columbus ohio home inspectors: Just curious? - 03/23/07 09:28 AM
I am wondering how people in different areas of the country (that have no licensing of home inspectors) address, and/or feel about, the fact that they (some home inspectors) claim to be certified?
Do you have a problem with the fact that the public assumes that a 'certification' must be given by your state?
Is it deceptive to advertise yourself as 'certified'?
If this is a profession should it not be nationally recognized?
I for one am tired of all the 'papermill' certifications.
Am I alone?

columbus ohio home inspectors: Certified building inspector - 03/23/07 09:06 AM
This is for Ohio only!
There are some individuals that claim to be 'certified' as a building inspector.
A 'Certified Building Inspector' is someone who is certified by The Board of Building Standards of The State of Ohio.
This part of what it says:
BUILDING INSPECTOR &
COMMERCIAL I.U. INSPECTOR
Three years experience as a construction contractor or
supervisor or as a skilled tradesman for work subject to
inspection.
REFER TO NOTES 1, 2, 5, & 7
Examination modules: Examination modules:
1A, 1B, 3B, 4B  or B1, B2, M2
REFER TO NOTES 4 & 6

columbus ohio home inspectors: Home Inspector Org.'s - 03/19/07 10:54 AM
We all know that there are only two Home Inspection organizations that have ANY credibility.
The rest are, in my opinion, just revenue generating 'clubs'.
As Realtors do you not want the best inspectors representing your clients?
Stand up and demand a countrywide standard for home inspections.
The ASTM is working on a standard for residential inspections.
Why can anyone state that they are 'certified'? Because we allow it.
Would it be too much to ask that a Home Inspector take a test?

columbus ohio home inspectors: Copy & Paste - 03/17/07 09:41 AM
Anyone can copy and paste someone else's matterial, and I do that sometimes too. The main reason that I copy and paste is to show everyone reading that the information is from a credible source.
I try not to bombbard you with alot selfserving information.
In the State of Ohio there are no requlations. While there are 'some' good home inspection organizations, there are some that just try to baffle you with BS.
God forbid that you would ever have to defend yourself in court, who would you like to say that you recommended? Someone certified by the state (this is for persons in Ohio) … (1 comments)

columbus ohio home inspectors: Workers Compensation - 03/15/07 08:22 AM
Do the people that you recommend carry the required workers compensation that is required in your state?
This can be very important should someone get hurt on one of your listings.
We carry workers compensation.

columbus ohio home inspectors: NACHI - 03/01/07 08:06 AM
Here is a quote that NACHI members use:
"Be sure to choose a NACHI home inspector. Anyone else is just looking around!"
I guess that a state certified inspector is 'just looking around'.
That is exactly what a NACHI member is doing if they are inspecting your new home in Ohio.
Ask the NACHI member if they are certified, by the State of Ohio, to perform new home construction inspections.
Anyone can 'claim' to be certified, why not choose someone who IS.
