There aren't that many gated horse friendly communities in the desert..and in La Quinta, there is basically ONE. It's caleld the La Quinta Polo Estates and the gate is directly across from the entry to the Eldorado Polo Club. The community is zoned for horses in small doses (2/acre) and the lots are 2 acres each. The gates and interior is maintained by the residents who pay a small HOA fee monthly of approx. $250. It is intriguing to me how few people, both locals and seasonal visitors, who are aware that the Palm Springs Valley is home to two of the largest polo clubs in the United States! We are second only to Florida in numbers of fields and players and the economic boost the polo world brings to the Valley every season. The two Polo Clubs, Eldorado and Empire are contiguous to each other and between them have approximately 22 active polo fields! Indio has it's own beauty; Rural and roomy. Indio is located directly East of La Quinta and West of Coachella. It's got a ton of wonderful things to offer, although focusing on housing has made so many people only see the less desireable events unfolding in this city. Land was cheap and plentiful (still is relatively speaking), and the developers came in droves. Unfortunately, when the building stopped...the housing projects were abandoned, and commercial sites did not reach some of the more Easterly projects.
