bigfork: It's Baaack - Montana Spartan Race in Kalispell/Bigfork - 05/08/14 10:26 PM
Tomorrow is the day. After volunteering last year, there is NO way I would ever be a participant. This year 5000 people are signed up to take part in a physical and mental challenge designed by the founder of Spartan. The course is naturally hilly and tough, add man made obstacles = a truly difficult day. The weather last year was unusually hot, this year, unusually cold and damp.

The Daily Interlake today had a great article and pics of some of the course.
As for me, I will be doing a horse obstacle course clinic in Bigfork at the Johnson Ranch. … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley: Columbia Falls, Whitefish, Bigfork, Kalispell - 03/29/14 12:19 AM
I love the diversity in our valley:
Columbia Falls: still a timber town with Plum Creek, RBM lumber, also the gateway to Glacier National Park. Flathead River runs through it.
Whitefish: the home of Big Mountain (Whitefish Mountain Resort) for winter and summer fun, old west downtown, situated on Whitefish Lake with bike trails and the Whitefish River running through it. From ski-bums to high end 2nd or 3rd homes, much diversity. Home of Alpine Theater Project and the Whitefish Theater with 2 venues to perform in.
Bigfork: On Flathead Lake and you can boat to the town. Artist and restaurant … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley Real Estate Update December 2, 2012 - 12/02/12 02:50 AM
Is it REALLY December already? Can hardly believe that November just sped past me.
Raining in the valley today and snowing in the mountains. I can see snow in the foot hills fairly close to the valley floor. Big Mountain is getting dumped on at the summit but need more snow in the village. Opening day: Dec. 8. I am ready with pass in hand! http://skiwhitefish.com/webcams.php for the live view. My poor horses are wading through mud. Reminds me of the years I lived in the Seattle area. I much prefer the ground to be frozen and covered with white.
Was a … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley News and Notes June 28, 2012 - 06/27/12 10:55 PM
Earth, Wind and Fire:
While Colorado battles to save homes from the insane numbers of fires in their state, parts of eastern Montana are also struggling to control fires. NW Montana far surpassed June record rainfalls and had very cool days inters pursed with beautiful, warm summer days. We had high winds and power outages last weekend which toppled trees. Flooding is a concern this week after a very aggressive storm passed through the Flathead Valley on Tuesday. All this moisture has protected our part of the state from fire so far this summer.
When we put our sailboat in Flathead … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley News and Notes March 21, 2012 - 03/20/12 11:15 PM
What is going on in the Flathead Valley in the business arena?
It seems that the valley is becoming well known among the gun aficionados in the country. There are 2 manufactures operating on an ever growing scale. One company manufactures wood barrels for rifles and recently won national recognition, Montana Rifle Company. There is an article in today's Flathead Beacon paper about another gun maker in Kalispell that is moving and expanding, adding employees.
Nemo Arms manufactures a whole different kind of weapon; nemoarms.com. Local Bigfork resident Major General Paul E. Vallely retired, is one of the gentlemen at the helm. One of the goals of this … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: December 10, 2011 - 12/10/11 12:16 AM
A beautiful sight yesterday afternoon: full moon rising over Glacier National Park! Blue sky, snow on the Swan Range of the Rockies, incredible. I never tire of looking at the view that surrounds me in the Flathead Valley.
It was a week of sunny days which did not help either Blacktail or Whitefish Mountain Resort to add to their snow base for skiing. Never the less, both areas are opening today. Big Mountain will have reduced lift tickets and limited terrain open for skiing. They have been making snow on the mountain to add to the snow nature has been rather … (1 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: September 24, 2010 - 09/24/10 02:35 AM
Heading to Bigfork today to bid at the Glacier Bank auction on a Flathead Lake condo on behalf of a buyer. VERY low reserve at $136,900, last list price was close to $300k. Should be a fun experience. Hope my clients win the bid.
Rain, rain and more rain. We have had some sun this week but mostly it has been cold in the mornings with scattered showers. I never remember things being so green and not having a killing frost this far into September. Trees are turning and it is an invigorating time of year.

Bigfork will be very busy this weekend. Cherry harvest is in full swing around Flathead Lake.Get them before it is too late! The fun - shut down the streets - art festival is happening in Bigfork this weekend. Park outside town and take a shuttle. Weather should be ideal.
Model T's have been seen all over the valley from as far away as New Zeland.

Weather has been great this week after a stormy … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: May 28, 2010 - 05/28/10 07:17 AM
First the housing market: Jim Kelly of Kelly Appraisal recently said in the newspaper that our market appears to be stabilizing in the Flathead Valley. Foreclosures seem to have peaked in Jan/Feb. This matches my observations that we are seeing more bank owned listings than short sales, and April was a very good month for closings. Compared to last year, March closings were up significantly, approximately 60% higher than the previous year.
We took a drive last Sunday up the Star Meadows Road between Kalispell and Whitefish. Round Meadows is an area for x-country skiing and snowshoeing in the … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: March 13, 2010 - 03/12/10 11:58 PM
It is almost the middle of March already! Not much snow sitting in my yard anymore. Temps have been approaching 60 degrees lately and sun, sun, sun. Heading to Hoopers Nursery for a seed starting seminar this afternoon. I have a greenhouse and sometimes my seeds fail to sprout, find out what I am doing wrong and get those seeds started.
Pretty sure my Nubian goat is pregnant now. She has been hiding her pregnancy until just the last few days. Due date the beginning of May, then we can look forward to fresh goat milk and experimenting with … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: February 5, 2010 - 02/04/10 10:46 PM
One of the fun activities in winter, when it isn't a good skiing day, is to go through ski catalogs and order seeds. I have ordered some new varieties to try. Plan on starting some seeds next month in my greenhouse.
There are some great horse clinics on offer this coming Spring and Summer. I will be attending one in April with my 5 year old gelding. Mark Rashid is teaching and I am a fan of his methods.
Whitefish Winter Carnival continues this weekend with a ball, penguin plunge, artwalk. The North Valley School of Music is having a concert … (1 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley Update: December 11, 2009 - 12/11/09 12:31 AM
It is snowing finally! Not a lot, but this weekend expect a quite a bit more. Big Mtn opened last weekend but opted not to ski since only a few runs were open and it was bitterly cold. This last week we had some frigid days but boy were the Rocky Mountains our shining against the clear blueskies. I overheard someone say yesterday those mountains are "food for the soul".
Whitefish Christimas Stroll is tonight, Friday. Always fun. Galleries and shops open and a Christmas parade. Snow will be falling, very Christmas like.
Bigfork is open late on the Saturdays before … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: November 27, 2009 - 11/26/09 11:20 PM
I saw an interesting commercial on t.v. yesterday; "Bigfork, Open All Year". Bigfork is one of 4 towns in our valley. Situated on the NE corner of Flathead Lake, it is a hopping place in the summer. Very picturesque sitting on the canal leading to the lake. The "elves" decorate Bigfork for the holidays. I most like Bigfork in the winter when it is quiet and not crowded. Galleries, great restaurants, and just wandering through town is relaxing and scenic. In the summer you can drive your boat to the public dock and then walk around from there. Summer also … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley update September 12, 2008 - 09/12/08 02:18 AM
Weather couldn't be better! Covering tomatoes at night but clear sunny and warm days. Winter may be around the corner but we are enjoying every bit of outdoor activities we can squeeze in.
I showed my Swan Hill Drive listing in Bigfork yesterday, incredible day to enjoy the views of the Swan Range. I feel so blessed to be able to share the Flathead Valley with locals and out of state buyers alike.
North Valley School of Music had a fund raising concert a couple of nights ago in Whitefish. The school brought in a famous cowboy singer … (0 comments)

bigfork: Flathead Valley update August 5, 2008 - 08/05/08 12:22 AM
The City of Whitefish had their third strike against the city keeping control of the "donut" area within 2 miles of the city limits. The courts again sided with Flathead County. The city is pursuing the matter in the higher courts.
I am including a photo I took last week on a day long horse ride in the Great Bear Wilderness. It was a great day and we were very thankful our friend brought his saw since a tree blew down while we were in the wilderness and blocked the trail going out. A little excitement with the horses … (0 comments)
