kalispell: Flathead Valley July Heat and FUN! - 07/10/14 12:22 AM
The 4th of July was incredible. We had family in town so took the grandsons to the Kalispell parade, City Beach in Whitefish and did fireworks late on the 4th. We older people struggled to stay awake since it gets dark so late in NW Montana. I don't remember the last time we stayed up late enough for fireworks!
It has been in the high 80's to 90's the last week. Have fun outside in the morning before it gets too hot. I used to tell clients they don't really need ac because we cool off so much at night, now … (0 comments)

kalispell: Plowing Progress in Glacier National Park - AND Guitar Festival Update - 06/14/14 12:25 AM
https://www.flickr.com/photos/glaciernps/ Is the source for updated photos of the plowing on Going to the Sun Highway. Projected fully open on June 20th - always a guess depending on weather between now and then. SO, if you are flying or driving in before that date, plan on biking/walking on the highway from Avalanche Creek. Kind of a fun time with no vehicles allowed past then.

kalispell: It's Baaack - Montana Spartan Race in Kalispell/Bigfork - 05/08/14 10:26 PM
Tomorrow is the day. After volunteering last year, there is NO way I would ever be a participant. This year 5000 people are signed up to take part in a physical and mental challenge designed by the founder of Spartan. The course is naturally hilly and tough, add man made obstacles = a truly difficult day. The weather last year was unusually hot, this year, unusually cold and damp.
http://www.spartanrace.com/montana-obstacle-racing-spartan-sprint-2013.html
The Daily Interlake today had a great article and pics of some of the course.
As for me, I will be doing a horse obstacle course clinic in Bigfork at the Johnson Ranch. … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley: Columbia Falls, Whitefish, Bigfork, Kalispell - 03/29/14 12:19 AM
I love the diversity in our valley:
Columbia Falls: still a timber town with Plum Creek, RBM lumber, also the gateway to Glacier National Park. Flathead River runs through it.
Whitefish: the home of Big Mountain (Whitefish Mountain Resort) for winter and summer fun, old west downtown, situated on Whitefish Lake with bike trails and the Whitefish River running through it. From ski-bums to high end 2nd or 3rd homes, much diversity. Home of Alpine Theater Project and the Whitefish Theater with 2 venues to perform in.
Bigfork: On Flathead Lake and you can boat to the town. Artist and restaurant … (0 comments)

kalispell: Spring Time Construction and Restaurant News in the Flathead Valley - 03/21/14 02:09 AM
Hops Bar and Grill: great burgers in Kalispell. They have 100 craft beers to choose from and a terrific wine list. They no longer take reservations, so we naively showed up last Friday night at 5:20pm, expecting to walk in and get a table. Wrong! We put our name on a list and walked around town for 30 min. Better to get there right at 5 or wait until 6 or so when the first diners are done and there are tables. I love Hops. It was previously Cafe Max with the same owners but now is more casual and the … (2 comments)

kalispell: A Personal Viewing of the Holiday Giving for Salvation Army - 12/14/13 09:37 PM
My husband and myself accompanied our daughter's Fresh Life Church small group Tuesday night to do some volunteering at the Salvation Army in Kalispell. We sorted donated toys onto age appropriate tables for the Dec. 20 "shopping" day. We learned how the Army pre-qualifies those that are receiving clothes, gifts, and toys for their families. So far, 900 people are going to be helped by the generous community we live in. We also got to peek in on the $ counters from the kettle donations. Volunteers meet nightly to count the money that came in during that day. The Salvation Army provides … (1 comments)

kalispell: Ahh, Kalispell Montana - 10/27/13 08:05 AM
Discover Kalispell is working hard to market our town and valley. From the Spartan Race this summer, to the Dragon Boat races in September. This is an excellent video highlighting the beauty of our area as well as all there is to see and do. Enjoy and plan a visit. Missing from the video are all the fun things to do in the winter.

kalispell: Kalispell, Montana: Ranked #11 by Money Magazine - Top City to Retire - 10/22/13 02:44 AM
Out of the 25 Best Cities to Retire: Kalispell ranked number 11.  For years we have attracted retirees that like an out doors and active life style. With Flathead Lake  - largest fresh water lake west of the Mississippi -, skiing, Glacier National Park in our backyard, golf courses and many other activities, it is no wonder this is a great place for people to move to when looking around the country for a place to retire!
What a beautiful fall!! I am looking out my office window at the larch trees dotting the hillsides with color, sun is shining and … (1 comments)

kalispell: Unemployment LOW! Cabelas Set to Open, and the Bypass Connector - 09/27/13 02:16 AM
Unemployment is at 6% in the Flathead Valley currently. Personal observation: I have noticed a lot of men back working in the valley instead of working the oil fields in N. Dakota. The contruction trades have picked up so that must be making the difference and a welcome sight it is.
Hutton Ranch is seeing a lot of activity north of Kalispell. Cabelas is set to open Nov. 7, Homewood Suites hotel is now open, and a major construction re-do on the busy interesection with W. Reserve and Hwy 93 is complete. That was an incredible project to accomlish in less … (0 comments)

kalispell: Kalispell Farmer's Market - 06/01/13 12:21 PM
Saturdays from 9am to 12 is the Kalispell Farmers Market located now at FVCC (Flathead Valley Community College). Gotta be there right at 9 to get a place to park and a chance to buy the best stuff! Got all my tomato plants, herbs and some annuals to put in my garden. This is a much better location than the mall parking lot, lots more visible to those driving by all the sports fields and box stores on Saturday mornings.
My hubby joined me at Crossfit Flathead for some tire flipping and sled dragging this morning. He starts the prelim classes … (1 comments)

kalispell: Kalispell Montana Spartan Race - 05/14/13 09:58 PM
Wow, what an event! Last Saturday approximately 4300 people participated in this amazing obstacle race. 4.9 miles, 2200 ft elevation gain, and 15+ obstacles. I volunteered to help out. Arriving at 6:30am last Saturday, my husband and myself learned we were at a water station at the 4 mile mark. We thought, how hard can that be? On the very bumpy pickup ride through the course to our station, the driver told us this was the hardest job. We road in the back of the pickup, holding on for dear life through ruts, mud and over the terrain to our station. … (2 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Update: April 27, 2013 - 04/27/13 01:50 AM
Many choices of things to do this weekend.
Alpine Theater Project http://atpwhitefish.org/ is opening Les Miserables School Edition this weekend in Whitefish. Taking students from area schools and having them act in a well known play. We went to a school edition play a couple of years ago and were very impressed!

http://www.conradmansion.com/DeathByChocolate.html Conrad Mansion is a historical home in Kalispell. This fund raiser is great fun. A mystery play performed throughout the mansion with the guests participating.
I just signed up to volunteer at the Spartan Race which will take place overlooking Flathead Lake on May 11. http://www.spartanrace.com/ I have many crossfit friends signed … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Update: March 28, 2013 - 03/28/13 06:00 AM
Lots going on in the valley for future road changes and developments. A developer got a closer to final approval for a 27 acre water ski lake development with surrounding home sites. The developer was given some changes but the Flathead County Planning Board to his original plan. This sort of subdivision is done in other areas and frankly, I don't see the point here in our valley. We have an abundance of lakes for water skiing on, unlike E. Montana or Arizona. Also, the season for water skiing is short. We will see how this concept flies.
The north end … (0 comments)

kalispell: Glacier High School Basketball - 02/22/13 10:43 PM
What fun! We went to one of the playoff games last night. When did high schoolers start looking like they were 12 years old?? :) Kalispell has 2 high schools and this is the one in our district, also the best basketball team, dare I say. The game was very fun and the cheering section of students even more fun. Some of the guys were in shorts and fur coats leading the gang. Spinning a large beach ball when there were free throws from the Missoula team. The cheerleaders were tiny girls who did a number of acrobatic lifts and throws, … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Update: February 22, 2013 - 02/21/13 10:12 PM
Some snow has finally fallen this week on the Big Mountain in Whitefish. The valley still has the remnants of the USA and Canadian holiday weekend. I was surprised how many families on vacation were on the mountain yesterday when I was skiing. Like skiwhitefish.com said this week, "2 weeks of lines and 15 weeks of no lines". Christmas week and Presidents weekend week are the busy 2. It is all relative though. Compared to other areas, our lines are nothing.
High school basketball playoffs are picking up steam. We may go watch the Glacier High Wolfpack play Helena tonight. Always … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Update: February 16, 2013 - 02/15/13 09:50 PM
Interesting "winter". The other day the weatherman said that Kalispell has had no below 0 temperature days this entire winter. The average is 11. Bozeman on the other hand has had 17 below 0 days. We went skiing 2x this week. The second time was so spring like. The lifties didn't have coats on, I got very warm with minimal layers. The snow was soft, visibility great. Hoping for some more snow this weekend! Tuesday we stayed on chair 2 and had some excellent runs. It was snowing and the clouds made for lack of visibility higher up.
In the valley … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Real Estate Update December 20, 2012 - 12/19/12 10:36 PM
All righty then, I will NOT be skiing today. Had planned on it as the weather was supposed to be awesome, but there is now a winter weather advisory and the skiwhitefish.com site that sends me auto emails on ski reports, just said the wind is howling at the summit 20-30 mph, no thanks! We went up yesterday morning and stayed on Chair 2 which is finally open. Fast runs, no people, good snow. Stayed there as the summit still looked fogged in. From the valley in the afternoon, the mountain was clearly visible so the clouds had passed. Had peekaboo … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Real Estate Update December 2, 2012 - 12/02/12 02:50 AM
Is it REALLY December already? Can hardly believe that November just sped past me.
Raining in the valley today and snowing in the mountains. I can see snow in the foot hills fairly close to the valley floor. Big Mountain is getting dumped on at the summit but need more snow in the village. Opening day: Dec. 8. I am ready with pass in hand! http://skiwhitefish.com/webcams.php for the live view. My poor horses are wading through mud. Reminds me of the years I lived in the Seattle area. I much prefer the ground to be frozen and covered with white.
Was a … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Update: November 21, 2012 - 11/20/12 09:04 PM
On this day before Thanksgiving, we step back and count our blessings for living in such an amazing corner of the country. While it rained yesterday, promises for a LOT of snow are in the forecast starting tonight. Ski season is a mere 2 weeks away and we are praying for lots of big dumps at Whitefish Mountain Resort!
There is a feeling of economic resurgence in the Flathead Valley. We stopped in at Brennigan's Irish Pub Friday and it was packed at 5:30pm. Obviously we weren't going to get a table for dinner, so headed down the street to Split … (0 comments)
