snow: That "in between time" - 03/19/14 03:17 AM
I posted on Facebook last week that I was calling it quits on the ski season and moving on to gardening and horse riding. A friend says that she hates the "in between time". I totally got it. Here in NW MT, all accept plowed piles of snow are gone, leaving wet and mud in it's place. At night it freezes, and during the day it is just messy. Too messy to ride or work the horses and my garden beds are still frozen. So, what to do in the seasonal transition? Start seeds for gardening later, work horses on the … (0 comments)

snow: Big Mountain has EPIC Snow! - 12/20/13 11:16 PM
The valley got about 6" in the last 24 hrs but the ski hill got dumped on. I skiied 2x this week and there is so much powder and no people, probably today will be a busy day though.

Today's Deep Thoughts:
8:00am- The anticipation is overwhelming. Visibility is still good at the summit but some low clouds are starting to move in and out on … (0 comments)

snow: Snow Alert! - 02/23/13 09:50 PM
Big Mountain has received 2 FEET of snow in the last 2 days, wow! The sky is clear and the moon is out early this morning, should be a good ski day. Heading to church and then to get an offer signed, hopefully still sunny for skiing this afternoon. for the web cams and snow report
Today's Deep Thoughts:
6:00am Since Friday we have received two feet of new snow!! We have now officially reached the settled-base century mark!
Over 100" settled base at the Summit! And the skiing has been unreal!
With over 200" of snowfall this season so far, … (1 comments)

snow: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: April 26, 2011 - 04/26/12 03:32 AM
We experienced 2 days of 80+ degrees early this week! Those warm days followed an exceptionally nice weekend to get all the outdoor chores started for the spring. Today it is cooler and a little wetter but it sure is nice and green around here. Trees are leafing out, Flathead lake is slowly rising to full pool and valley residents can be seen making every effort to get outside and enjoy our activities.

Here is a photo that was posted by Glacier National Park of the plowing in Two Medicine camp ground. Just a "little" snow!! Speaking of snow, Whitefish Resort … (0 comments)

snow: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: February 10, 2012 - 02/10/12 03:24 AM
As I write this blog, it is snowing big flakes outside my window. Our snow pack is about 52% of normal and the ski hill has half as much snow as a year ago - of course that was a record year. Snow is in the forecast for the next week so skiers rejoice!
There are a number of investors in the market looking at multi-family and commercial real estate. I had a commercial listing just close and showings on the duplex units I have listed. Job ads at Job Service and in the local paper are definitely on the rise. … (0 comments)

snow: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: December 2, 2010 - 12/02/10 01:24 AM
Holiday activities in the Flathead Valley are picking up speed, see a list below.
Took a drive on the Kalispell bypass (alternate route) last weekend. Speeds up the drive from the north to the south. No traffic lights but roundabouts control access and exit.
Had a wonderful dinner at the Whitefish Lake Restaurant Sunday night. The atmosphere cannot be beat. Log inside, roaring fire, low lights, and great food. Reserve early for Christmas plans.
Another restaurant in Whitefish, Latitude 48 on Central downtown, good value and good food.
  Events this weekend:
Whitefish Mountain Resort opens to … (0 comments)

snow: Flathead Valley Weekly Update; March 6, 2010 - 03/06/10 01:51 PM
Is it Spring?? All week it has been sunny and in the 50's, it could be a trick and a good old March storm could happen, but who knows. The down side is the snow pack is VERY low. Let's hope the forest fires do not come back this year. A lot of rain could offset the whole issue and is needed for the crops, including our hay crop.
Hoopers Nursery was packed out this afternoon for their free seminar, everyone is getting ready to think of starting those seeds and getting ready for summer. I want to get my seeds … (0 comments)

snow: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: January 14, 2010 - 01/13/10 11:56 PM
I LOVE where I live! Last Thursday, the sun was out, skis were in the car, so after working all morning, ran up to ski a few runs. Rode up on the chair with a guy who had done the very same thing. Not many places where a person can be so close to the ski hill that they can do this.
On the weekend we had a family bowling competition at Pick's Bowling in Bigfork. A fairly new  bowling alley. Fun and frustration - not my favorite thing to do. Followed by dinner at Tamarack Creek Brewery in Lakeside. The … (0 comments)

snow: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: November 20, 2009 - 11/19/09 11:44 PM
What's new in the valley? The biggest news this week is the selling of Semi-Tool, one of the valley's largest employers. Semi-tool was started in California and moved to Kalispell by a local man. The company makes the equipment to manufacture wafers for semi-condutors. The deal is set to close before the end of the year. No word yet if the local plant and employees will be effected.
The Kalispell truck alternate route (aka bypass) contract has been awarded. Construction to start depending on weather.
Waiting for......... SNOW! The slopes on Big Mountain - Whitefish Moutain Resort - open in early … (1 comments)

snow: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: October 28, 2009 - 10/28/09 01:03 AM
by Cary Jo
Snow!! Yes, some wet stuff is falling today. A cold front is passing through and giving us a little white, so far nothing is sticking in the valley, but should be in the mountains.
Hunting season opened last Sunday. You could feel the buzz in the air. Not a lot of success, but never the less many wait months for the chance to walk around in the woods looking for game.
Successful closing on my first REO - bank owned property. I had a seller and even with the extra paper work, went very smoothly. The good thing … (0 comments)

snow: Flathead County Update: December 17, 2008 - 12/17/08 03:35 AM
It is finally beginning to look a lot like Christmas!! Snow is falling, everything is white in the valley. A big snow storm due to arrive in the next few hours should make Big Mountain fans smile and hit the slopes. It is cold out but that is okay as long as the white stuff keeps falling.
For all of us who live in the north end of Kalispell, good news. Super WalMart is going to be built near Costco and all the other retailers at the north end of town. This will give us a badly needed grocery store without … (0 comments)

snow: Flathead Valley Weekly Update - 04/03/08 04:15 AM
After a winter of snowfall in enormous proportions, Glacier National Park is expected to open on June 13. This date of course, is subject to the weather from now until then. This summer the Going to the Sun road will be impacted by the continuing construction that was started last fall. There is a shuttle system that again will be used to shuttle visitors and hikers from one side on the park to the other. For pictures of snow removal, go to On 4/3/08 there is a photo of the plowing. Awesome amount of snow!Speaking of snow, Whitefish Mountain Resort … (0 comments)

snow: Recent News from the Flathead Valley, Whitefish, Bigfork and Kalispell - 01/14/08 02:05 AM
1. Conservation Easements: 2 long time families in the valley have generously tied up large parcels along the Flathead River with Conservation easements. Conservation Easements eliminate the possibility of subdividing the land, in some ways impacting the owner from making the most money from this property if and when they should ever want to sell it. The public benefits greatly with guaranteed access to fishing and recreation. I applaud these actions.
2. Both Whitefish and Kalispell are working on proposals for parking garages. As in any growing area, there is a great need for the added parking space so locals and tourists … (0 comments)

snow: Sunshine and Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort Opening Day! - 12/07/07 06:43 AM

Here we go! Another Ski season about to start. is the place to go for web cams, tickets, conditions and anything else you might like to know.
Some recent council decisions in Whitefish are interesting. There has been a resolution to only allow nightly rentals of residential properties (less than 30 days long) in areas of Whitefish where the zoning allows. This will hamper many owners on the lake as well as in town who historically have been renting out their property as nightly rentals. I will let you know if any lawsuits come of this somewhat radical action that … (0 comments)
