 That's right -  Aiken's own Triple Crown kicks off this weekend. Three consecutive weekends of total fun!! What:  FIRST LEG -  Aiken Trials.  Come watch the horses race on a flat track.   This race has been held every year since 1942 - giving young thoroughbreds a chance to show their stuff!   Come on out and enjoy the races.   When: Saturday, March 14, 2009

They are a common sight in this little horse town.  Carriage Drivers that is!   And Saturday was no different.   The Aiken Driving Club had a parade on Saturday, and as you watch the carriages go by you can't help but be reminded of the way it once was.

...or this is what I used to think. I am the first to admit that I can't tell a cedar tree from an oak tree.   I think that is about to change.  I live in Downtown Aiken - and I just found out we have a CITYWIDE ABORETUM! (say it like this:  arbor-eee-tum)
Trees are our greatest assests and our arboretum provides a natural learning lab for EVERYONE!
Aikens' downtown streets are laid out in a grid pattern - creating 176 parkways which total over 15 miles in length!  Pretty cool huh!  All that green space - throughout the city :)    AND HOME TO OVER 150 DIFFERENT … (14 comments)

...but it's true name is:  Aiken Brewing Company Grille & Bar.     Located in the heart of downtown Aiken at the corner of The Alley and  Laurens Street.  You can't miss it!   Look for the red/green striped awning and the tables out front - full of happy customers - under the big green umbrellas :)      We have several options for al fresco dining downtown.   I think my favorite is the Brew Pub.

The frozen casserole sale was a complete success and completely sold out in the first hour!    Silly me - I headed straight for the chocolate...and by the time I got to the casseroles they were all gone  : (

The Festival is wrapping up today.  The Polo Match yesterday was very exciting.  And it was a Skins match - so each chukker was played separate - and the score was started fresh - with the winning team (of each chukker) sharing a $1000 prize!.,
It ended up being a split.  The WHITE team took chukker 1 and 3, and the BLUE team won chukker 2 and 4.   All were very close -and very exciting.   and NO INJURIES is the best part!!

It's back!!  Yes, back for a second year :)  A fun packed event for the entire family!
The Ford Trucks Equestrian America Balloon Festival has something for everyone.
One change from last  year -- -this year it is being held at the Aiken Polo Club fields on Powderhouse Road.
Equestrian Exhibitions include:  Junior equestrians - polo, barrel racing, jumping, hunting, dressage and much more.
30 hot air balloons are expected to be on hand, too!

Located in the heart of downtown Aiken, and built in 1912, this semiprivate, links style 18 hole, par 70 golf course is one of the oldest golf courses in the nation and has features including Bermuda grass and walking paths.

I just heard on the news that we had a record setting low temperature this morning. 54 degrees.   It beat the previous coldest July 2nd - which was 59 degrees back in 1988 and 1919.   
 I was just saying to my mom tonight how perfect the weather has been!  
 I have been able to open up the windows and save on the a/c.   It has been just perfect :)   I hope it lasts for awhile, the evenings have been great!
Oh,  this mornings low temp also broke the previous monthly record low temp for July!    The previous record was 55 … (4 comments)
