tarrant county real estate: Bernanke Says Fed Will Take "Decisive" Action... - 01/10/08 06:34 PM
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Alan Greenspan's replacement, yesterday announced that the "Fed" is entering the New Year with plans to aggresively cut interest rates.
Bernanke said that the Federal Reserve board has decided that avoiding a recession is a much greater worry that containing inflation.
Many Fed Watchers believe that at the next meeting of the FOMC... the Federal Open Market Committee... which meets about every six weeks... will drop interest rates by a full one-half percent instead of the "baby step" cuts of one-quarter percent that have been seen over the past fiscal quarter.
Many people who in the past criticized Alan … (12 comments)

tarrant county real estate: Floor Time... The Early Years... Part Two - 12/21/07 12:33 PM
Here is another tale from my "early years" on floor time:
This second "happening" occurred way back in about my third month in real estate ... and luckily, by that time I had learned quite a bit from Howard, my broker, about how to handle "floor time calls."
My broker's office phone number was only one digit off from the number of a local "fine dining" restaurant nearby.  I had already received a few wrong numbers asking for the restaurant.  This one Saturday I received another call... asking to be connected to the "dining room." By this time, I was feeling pretty good about my phone technique, … (21 comments)

tarrant county real estate: Fort Worth Semi-Custom Home - from the high 130's to the low 170's ! - 12/13/07 12:22 PM
Every Once in A While I Find a Home That Really Stands Out.  I'm Going To Share One Of Those With You Today.
This single story home is just packed with features on the "wish list" of most of the buyers I have met.  The covered from porch really sets off the exterior look.  The "streetscape" is one most folks remember first after a long day of looking at home after home after home.
The porch, the brick columns, the steep pitch of the roof, the "reverse gable" with the mild-eyebrow window above the garage door, and finally the double-eyebrow dormer window above the porch... all these … (10 comments)

tarrant county real estate: There's Still Time to Use the Homestead Exemption as a Closing Tool... - 12/07/07 02:21 AM
Earlier this year I wrote a blog post about the Homestead Exemption in Texas.  I've received some requests for some additional ideas on the subject... so here goes:
In Texas, we Texans are very proud of our homes.  We treasure them.  It appears the Great State of Texas treasures them, too.  The Homestead Exemption is just one more thing Texas has done to encourage home ownership.
The basic Homestead Exemption is sort of like a "discount" on a homeowner's real estate taxes.  In Texas, if you take title to a home by the end of any calendar year... and if you use that … (6 comments)

tarrant county real estate: My New MAC... Episode One - 12/06/07 11:59 PM
I have received many requests from Active Rainers about my new "adventure" in buying a MAC.
I am not sure if some folks had simply been thinking about getting a MAC, and wanted to see how things went with my purchase, or if their frustration with the new Windows Vista operating system had become the last straw for them... and that's why they were thinking about getting a MAC.
Either way, I am going to start a "new thread" sharing my continuing story about me and my new MAC.

Yesterday was my MAC class Number One.  I have just been … (19 comments)

tarrant county real estate: You Can't Get There From Here ! - 12/05/07 04:11 PM
Quite a few years ago I lived in Columbia, Maryland.  Now, for those of you who have never been to Columbia, and I was one of them, Columbia was one of the first "planned communities" in the country.  I believe it was Mr Rouse who planned out the entire city... separated it into specific "villages"... from the very beginning.
I think it was during my first week after arriving in Columbia.  I was driving around... I think I was on Little Patuxent Parkway... and somehow I got lost.  I drove around some more, and seemed to be going in circles  I just … (20 comments)

tarrant county real estate: I Think I'm Going To Leave "The Dark Side." It's Time to Buy a MAC ! - 11/30/07 07:16 AM
I have been thinking about getting a MAC computer for quite a while.  I've watched all those silly commercials with the "PC GUY" on the left of your TV screen, and the "MAC Guy" on the right.
Of course, those commercials always play up how great a MAC is, and how woefully inefficient a PC is.  I must say, I guess they have done a pretty good job with it.  They appear to have gotten inside my brain, and have finally spurred me to action.
Over the last two weeks,I have been looking for a place where I can learn all about … (15 comments)

tarrant county real estate: My Second Office in Colleyville... First Visit... First Client ! - 11/27/07 02:12 PM
I Had a Very Interesting Experience Yesterday.  I was sitting in Borders in Colleyville, Texas.  I was blogging my little heart out... answering some comments made to a few of my posts... and workig on three new blog posts I hope to submit sometime this week.
I had "set up shop" at one of the tables over near the side entrance... the doors are under the Borders sign at the right... in the picture below.  I had been there for about forty-five minutes, and had just come back from the counter after ordering a second cup of "Seattle's Best Coffee," and sat … (33 comments)

tarrant county real estate: Families That Are Stitched Together With Love... Seldom Unravel - 11/25/07 05:05 PM
Several Years Ago I received a call from a woman who wanted to talk about selling her home.  Her name was Valerie.  We chatted for awhile on the phone, and then we set aside a time to get together.
When I visited her home, I didn't find a "house"... I found an immaculately taken-care-of "home."  There were pictures of all her family members on her "wall of fame."  This wall was all along the right side of the stairway leading from the first floor to the second floor.  It was very easy to tell that she was very proud of her family.
One of Valerie's … (26 comments)

tarrant county real estate: So Many Offices To Choose From... - 11/22/07 08:14 PM
It is such a nice luxury to have so many offices.  Most Realtors only have one office.  Some Realtors who belong to multi-office companies sometimes have several offices they can meet clients at.
Luckily... I have many "offices" I can use.  Room to meet my clients... often in somewhat of a private area.  I am sure many of you have met a client at your "main office"..., seated them in the conference room, and then walked into the "break room" for some coffee for them... only to find the coffee someone made six hours ago has turned into something just this side … (61 comments)

tarrant county real estate: I Had Coffee With A Friend on Saturday... - 11/18/07 07:03 PM
Saturday afternoon I spent some time with a really neat person.  We met at what has become an "office away from the office" for many of us Realtors... Starbucks !
My friend is Sharon Yeary.  Some time ago Sharon started her very own real estate company... Sharcom Realty.  Just recently Sharon proudly celebrated her second anniversary.  It's been two great years for Sharon... on her own... after taking that scary jump... and opening her own company.

Sharon had been shopping with her daughter... so when she walked in to Starbucks to meet me... she was wearing her very own, personalized Sharcom Realty shirt.  … (12 comments)

Additionally, many of our kids will be outside... walking door-to-door ringing doorbells and yelling Trick-Or-Treat.  Although my own daughter is now thirty-five years old, and lives about sixty miles away, I cannot help but remember all the cute costumes and outfits that we made up for her to wear for those fun evenings.
