real estate sales: Is it a buyers’ market or a sellers’ market?

Statistically speaking we are just about in a balanced real estate market which equates to more sensible pricing and negotiations surrounding the sale of a property for everyone involved. Months of supply, or housing inventory, is used to measure the type of market we are in. Generally speaking, less than 6 months’ supply of homes on the market favors the seller ( sellers’ market) because there are fewer choices for the buyer so it leads to more competition in pricing. Until 2 years ago, I had 5 generations of women living in my family; Grandmother, Mom, Me, Daughter and Granddaughter. But we never called anyone old: we just said “You’re older and she’s oldest!” We used to brag about our longevity, but then I realized that many other families have the same scenario. I’ll bet you know a family like this! Yes: women do historically live longer than men, according to the U.S. census, and therefore elderly women outnumber men.
