Dale City was the inspiration of Cecil Don Hylton and his wife Irene. His firm, Hylton Homes began developing homes in Dale City west of I-95 at the conclusion of World War II. Recovering veterans are now sent to the Veteran's Administration Hospital best qualified to provide care for their specific injuries. This is a departure from the old policy in which an injured vet was sent to the Veteran's Administration Hospital closest to their home.
