A New Jersey Senate panel will vet a bill that would create horse racing betting sites in the state's northern counties, and part of Ocean County, where electronic wagering terminals can be placed at a limited number of bars and restaurants.
The measure would essentially create mini off-track wagering sites, according to the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill, N.J.
The measure limits the program to Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Passaic, Union, Morris, Somerset, Hunterdon, Warren, Sussex, and northern Middlesex and Ocean counties.
Host municipalities would collect a local impact fee of 1 percent from each betting machine's gross revenues. Other funds would go … (0 comments)

ocean county events: Toll Hikes to Pay for Garden State Parkway Improvements

With a 50 percent toll increase taking effect on 1 January on the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike, officials of the authority that runs both toll roads said revenue raised will be plowed into the $7 billion capital program to upgrade roads and bridges.
Those plans will include replacing about 28 aging bridges on the Parkway as part of an expanded project to add shoulders and widen lanes between Wall and Toms River.
The bridge work, along with the shoulder widening, is currently in design. Plans call for completing the final designs and advertising for construction bids at the end of 2012.
