With more than 40,000 acres in Georgia and Tennessee (where its known as Big Frog Wilderness Area), the Cohuttas comprise the largest wilderness east of the Mississippi. Jackrabbit Mountain Trail The Jackrabbit Mountain trail system in Hayesville, NC officially opened on April 30, 2011 and now provides access to over 14 miles of trails in the southern parts of Nantahala National Forest. Characteristics The trails travel along the shores and hills beside Lake Chatuge. All trails are open to mountain biking and hiking, and although the trails were constructed specifically with mountain biking in mind, they're a nice place to hike as well.
