A colleague recently told me that she had been told on more than one occasion that Home Staging is pretentious and phony. Pretentious and phony? My feelings were hurt. That anyone could think that what I do is anything but honest and of value was very troubling. I could not get the exchange out of my mind so I decided to take a second look. The only thing to do was think back to my marketing studies way back when. As a Home Stager, I am part of the Real Estate industry. (9 comments)

No Cookie Cutter Home Staging Used Here (Home Staging in Houston, Katy, TX and the Surrounding Area) Before you work with a Home Stager take a look at her pictures. According to Cindy Lee Bergersen of Hamptons.com, 84% of buyers go on-line to shop for houses before deciding to see them in person. Pictures are important not only for the purposes of the MLS, but also for judging a Home Stager’s talent. When you look at the pictures, do you see rooms that are warm and welcoming? Yes? Good. Are there pictures that are clearly from a wide variety of houses? (2 comments)
homestaging: Death of the Phone Call
- 03/14/11 05:06 AM
Recently, while watching a morning news show, I saw a segment on how we use our phone for everything except talking to each other. We text, tweet, IM, etc., but actually have a conversation? Not so much. Wired magazine actually predicted the death of the phone call. This story reminded me of something a client recently told me. She was talking about her Realtor and said that they had used her a few years ago when they bought the house they are currently selling. The client told me that this Realtor was the only one that returned her phone calls. I (3 comments)

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow. ~Douglas Pagels,These Are the Gifts I'd Like to Give to You
As I write this, my husband and I are planning a trip to Fredericksburg, TX. It is a small town about 200 some odd miles west of our home in Houston. I’m not exactly sure what all we will do while we are there, but (3 comments)
homestaging: Don't Do That!

Recently, I was spending part of a Sunday afternoon visiting open houses. I stopped by one house where I knew a Realtor I had worked with in the past would be. She saw me pull up and beat me to the door. After giving me an enthusiastic “Hello!” she said, “You’re gonna love this one.” Her tone was no longer enthusiastic. The second I crossed the threshold, I was greeting by in your face, striped wallpaper in the entry way. To the left, was the dining room and it was painted a bright bold color, and just beyond that was a (2 comments)
homestaging: Buying New Is So Last Year

I’ve never been someone that enjoys wondering the mall and combing through stores just looking for something to strike my fancy. I’m very task oriented so I when I shop, I know what I want, and I’m reasonably sure where I can get it. I want to park, pick, pay, and go. One exception to this has always been antiques. Not the fancy antique stores but the fairs in the country where vendors come together and set up booths to sell their wares two or three times per year. It’s really a mix of antiques and junk, but for whatever reason, (4 comments)
homestaging: You Want Buyers to Notice Your House, Not Your Stuff

A major part of home staging is de-cluttering. For most people, it is not exactly a pleasant task, but it is oh so necessary. Think about how good you feel in a room that has been cleared of stacks of paper and piles of books and magazines. You want buyers to have that feeling when they view your house. When you’re selling your home, you’ll want to take de-cluttering a step further. Look at your shelves. Are they full of books, collectibles and tchotchkes? When we’re living in our homes we surround ourselves with the things that that bring us comfort (3 comments)
