Ice Dams
It seems to me that many people are having ice dams in Staten Island, and other parts of the North East were very cold weather is present. Same old same old. I'm re-posting my Ice Dams post from 2010. You can see it here. http://activerain.com/blogsview/2043412/home-inspector-quiz

What Does This Mean?
Folks who have had a recent snow storm, what does this mean hanging from your roof?

It could mean warmer weather is melting the snow and your gutters are clogged with snow and ice. Or,
it could mean an ice dam forming. Is your attic warmer then it should be? Are you losing heat to the attic from places you don't know about?
How can you check for this loss of heat?
Do you have an ice shield under the roof singles? How high does it go up.
