photographs: Coco's Not Chicken - 11/27/11 05:48 AM

I thought sure with all the squawking they were doing, my dog would shy away from this rowdy group of hens. But she was fearless, putting her nose right through the fencing. I was just waiting for one of these curious birds to give her a warning peck, but it seems they were just as curious as she was.

photographs: What An Ingenious Use for Something We've Been Throwing Away - 09/29/11 03:45 PM
At the Quilt Show this past weekend at Alden Lane Nursery, I saw some incredible quilts. But I also saw an interesting decorative display.  These oversized 'flowers' were made from the hard shell casing (not sure what they're called - anyone?) from Queen Palm trees.  It looks as if these sturdy, leaf-shaped growths were split, giving them a bit of a frayed edge, and then pieced together to form gigantic flowers.  There must be some sort of soil repository in the middle, as it's been stuffed with a filler of some kind and has cactus-looking plant life growing within. For all … (10 comments)

photographs: Yee Gads, Where the Heck Am I? - 08/17/11 04:20 PM

While I was hosting an open house for a client who lived across the street, his Bengal cat (McManus) explored my home while Mr. Client and my husband watched "Inside Job" - the implosion of the real estate market.  Apparently the movie and its message scared the heck out of the cat too.

photographs: Look Who Loves the Playground - 07/20/11 05:01 PM
My dog Coco gets a visit to the park nearly every day.  My husband has developed a habit of taking her on the playground equipment, where she goes up the ladder, across the wobbly bridge, through the mesh tunnel and down the slide.  Not to be outdone, my 1 year old grandaughter wanted to go down too. She's obviously had less practice that our pup, as she started out sitting down, but somehow got herself going down belly first.
As much fun as it is to watch the two of them, I really get a kick out of the other kids … (16 comments)

photographs: Coco Catches Some Rays - 05/17/11 08:04 PM

Well, we tried to anyway.  There hasn't been much California sun here lately, but during a little respite Monday, our little pup took a drive while I took advantage of the blue skies and took some photos for Localism blogs.  I turned around after taking my pictures to see her big ol' ears and pink harness peaking out the top of the sun roof.  She thinks she's the coolest dog around, and I would have to agree :)

photographs: Spring Tease, Livermore, CA 94550 - 03/20/11 03:19 AM
Boot Hill was once a cemetary, but when erosion disturbed the site, graves were relocated and the area was left as open space, but planted with hundreds of colorful bulbs. Near Granada High School in Livermore, CA it's a favorite spot for parents and kids to take some springtime photos.  Oh, and you'll always find a few teens milling about there too ;)

photographs: Graceful Sculpture - "The Source", Deloach Vineyards, Russian River Valley - 03/08/11 11:57 AM

On a much needed weekend getaway, we traveled up to Wine Road, a barrel tasting event in the Sonoma-Healdsburg area.  At one of our stops, we spotted this beautiful sculpture at Deloach Vineyards.  Isn't it stunning?  A staffer told me that it was created by Peter Schifrin, and is called Earth and Sky.  It's 18' tall, and made of bronze. I can only imagine how dramatic this would look in full moonlight, or with the reflection of sun upon it.

photographs: Moonlight or Lamplight? - 02/22/11 06:30 AM

This gorgeous image was taken by my friend, an artist who lives in White House, Ohio.  You can certainly tell that she has an artist's eye.  You'd have to, to go out in the cold late at night to capture this frame worthy scene.  Taken right from her front porch, looking over the expanse of a frosty front yard.  Former neighbors of ours in California, she has found a way to appreciate the seasonal changes which are much more frequent and extreme than those found in her native state.  To see more of Nancy's artistic talent, visit her website.
