Construction Starts For New Sarasota Shopping Mall! Groundbreaking ceremonies were held yesterday for the new Mall at University Town Center. The new mall will be the first to be built in Sarasota in 35 years. Originally announced over five years ago and put on hold due to economic conditions, the new Mall at University Town Center will contain 880,000 square feet and is scheduled to open in October of 2014.
