door knocking: Knock Knock: Thursday evening in River Bend, Lisle - 03/15/12 12:01 PM
I sit at the office.  It is now 3:57 PM.  It is another glorious day in Naperville, sunny with temperatures around 80 degrees...
I am doing my my standard pre door knocking ritual.  Lots of coffee and music played loudly through me headphones..
Last night, I had finished visiting homes in Carrolwood in Naperville.  It took me 5 times out, and I met 50 nice people who will remember me, but no solid near term leads.
Tonight, I will be going to River Bend in Lisle, a higher end townhome community with a vastly different feel.  I am ready to go, excited … (12 comments)

door knocking: Knock knock: A Wednesday evening door knocking in Carrolwood, Naperville - 03/14/12 11:17 AM
It is Wednesday afternoon, shortly after lunch.  I am at the office on another gorgeous early spring day in Naperville...
Drinking coffee and listening loud music through my headphones, I was getting excited.  Coffee has a way of doing that to me.  Although I may be peaking too early, it is better to peak early than not at all...
I have just found a neighbor to watch my girls tonight at 5 PM...
I will be door knocking...

I pulled into Carrolwood at 5:02 PM.  My car thermometer read 82 degrees, an incredibly warm evening in mid March...
As I stepped out of my car, … (6 comments)

door knocking: Knock Knock. Who's there? It's me. The Realtor... - 03/09/12 09:37 AM
Knock Knock.  Who's there?  It's me.  The Realtor...
Although my script isn't that simple, it is pretty close...
I first "door knocked" for real estate 5 years ago.  I knocked for about 2 months, generated a ton of leads, but then, life got in the way and I stopped...
Feeling a need to jump start my business, I decided to get back out there.  I started on Tuesday, and tonight will be my third night out...
It really hasn't been hard.  Out of my first 20 "meetings", almost everyone has been extremely nice.
My plan is to go out 4 times a week and meet 10 people … (7 comments)

door knocking: A perfect day for door knocking, but on the third day, I rest... - 03/08/12 04:32 AM
It is a beautiful day today in Naperville.  Temperature in the mid 40s, with light winds and plenty of sun.
A perfect day for door knocking, but on the third day, I rest...
As excited as I am about door knocking, this isn't some maniacal door knocking sprint...
Rather it's a calculated prospecting plan.  Something with long term potential.  Or I hope it does...
Honestly, I have other plans tonight, or I probably would be going out...
But that's OK...
There will be plenty of nice days in Naperville...

My short term door knocking goal:
I will visit every door in Carrolwood, Naperville, and offer my services.  I … (9 comments)

door knocking: Day 2 of Door Knocking in Carrolwood, Naperville... - 03/07/12 10:59 AM
Yesterday was great.  It was my first day of door knocking in five years. It felt great to be prospecting...
I am excited go out again.  It is 2 PM, and the skies are fairly dark with gusty winds today in Naperville.  It is a warm day for early March...
I have just found a babysitter to watch my girls, and my schedule is now clear...
I will be going door knocking...

Cup of iced coffee in hand, I head out the door, actually kind of excited.  That is the nice thing about caffeine...
I was dressed in cords and a KW … (4 comments)

door knocking: Day 1 of Door Knocking... - 03/06/12 12:05 PM
I went door knocking today.  First time in 5 years.  It felt great...
I pulled into Carrolwood, Naperville, right on time.  4:57 PM.  I had just a bit of nervousness.
I was going old school.  Door knocking.  I have heard agents say that door knocking somehow cheapens the profession.  I don't see it that way at all...
It says I am busting my butt.  I think customers probably appreciate that...
Anyway, the weather was very nice for early March.  About 60 degrees, but really windy.  Quite pleasant.  Lots of people were out and about, just returning from work...
I was wearing slacks and a mock turtleneck.  … (12 comments)

door knocking: Door Knocking for Real Estate... - 07/12/08 06:28 AM
Alright.  I admit it.  It has been quite a while since I have door knocked.  But I did it for about three months in February, March, and April of last year.
There was a riduculous cold spell last February.  Temps were under 20 degrees for two weeks straight.  My coldest evening was 6 degrees.  Brrrr.
I would begin knocking at 5 o'clock.  I would knock till I spoke with 10 people at their doors.  The reception was suprisingly positive.  In the rare cases someone was mean, that was OK.  It still counted towards my 10.
It would usually take 40 to 45 minutes to … (35 comments)
