Each year Realtors from Mecklenburg and Iredell counties volunteer their time and talents to the community in an event known as Realtors Care Day. The mission is to provide repairs to homeowners in the area who otherwise would be unable to afford them. This year, they are going after more than new windows and cabinets by collecting non-perishable food donations to feed the hungry. The Iredell County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 Tuesday to adopt a resolution approving the $10.7 million purchase of MacBook Air laptops for each middle and high school student and teacher in Iredell-Statesville Schools. The commissioners had voted Jan. 21 to unanimously reject I-SS’ initial proposal, which led to an informal meeting Thursday in which six leaders from I-SS and Iredell County government met to broker a deal everyone could agree to. The Iredell County Board of Commissioners approved two new rescue districts in southern Iredell County recently, completing a two-and-a-half year process that has broken the Mooresville rescue district into five smaller ones, each serviced by their pre-existing fire department. "Those five fire districts were already there, and now they are fire and rescue," said David Saleeby, Iredell County fire and emergency services coordinator. The National Association of Realtors said Monday that its seasonally adjusted index for pending home sales dropped 0.4% to 110.9 in June. The May reading was revised lower by a percentage point to 111.3, but it was still the highest since December 2006. The slight decline suggests higher mortgage rates may be starting to slow sales. Gardner-Webb University is considering opening a campus in Mooresville, as soon as next January. The university sent a survey to members of the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce last week, seeking to gauge local interest in a small campus that would offer bachelors and masters degrees. “Your responses will determine whether a Mooresville campus will open in January 2014,” the letter to chamber members said. Yesterday I had the pleasure of utilitzing the new Brawley School Road Exit 35 that recently opened off of I77. Because I was a passenger I thought I would take this opportunity to video tape my experience so you can see too how AWESOME IT IS! It took less than "2 1/2 Minutes" from the time I was entering the off ramp until I was sitting at Williamson Road - and that was even with sitting at a red traffic light! AMAZING!!!

What should Mooresville do for an encore? The town saw a significant gain in jobs from 2005 to 2011, from about 15,300 to 22,255, according to the latest available figures.
