lake norman: Mooresville Looking to the Future ... - 07/05/13 05:34 AM
What should Mooresville do for an encore?
The town saw a significant gain in jobs from 2005 to 2011, from about 15,300 to 22,255, according to the latest available figures.

“That’s a really remarkable increase in employment in a relatively small city,” consultant Jennifer Imo of The Ferguson Group told about 40 local business leaders at the Charles Mack Citizen Center last week.
Mayor Miles Atkins called the meeting to discuss The Ferguson Group’s recent demographic and economic analysis of Mooresville, developed to help identify relevant federal and state grants the town could pursue.
The meeting was a chance for … (13 comments)

lake norman: Is the Term ... "SHORT SALE" an OXYMORON? - 06/30/13 09:53 PM
Bet you're wondering how such a L-O-N-G Process as a "Short Sale" really got it's name! The term "Short Sale" has become increasingly popular in recent years. But some might say the actual process of a "Short Sale" is in reality a "Long Sale" which makes it an OXYMORON!

So .... how did it get it's name?
According to Wikipedia, the definition of Short Sale is:

A short sale is a sale of real estate in which the proceeds from selling the property will fall short of the balance of debts secured by liens against the property, and the property owner cannot afford … (0 comments)

lake norman: The "Dick Van Dyke Show Living Room" is BACK!! - 06/30/13 01:51 PM
One of the hotest and latest trends is actually a spin off of what was SUPER HOT in the early 1960's ... "Sunken Living Rooms"!

It actually was a trend long before the popular 1960's show Dick Van Dyke's famous tumble.  Architect Bruce Goff incorporated a Sunken Living Room into the now famous Adah Robinson residence in 1927.

But ... there's a new twist and what's also becoming increasingly popular now is "Sunken Living Spaces" - ANYWHERE!

lake norman: Lake Norman is Turning 50! - 06/18/13 01:06 AM

Fifty years after the waters of the Catawba River finished flooding the countryside to form Lake Norman, Mooresville and the region were forever changed.

The 32,510-acre impoundment created by the completion of Cowans Ford Dam – 50 years ago this summer – soon became a place for weekend cabins, then rapidly transformed over the past 25 years into the permanent home for tens of thousands of people.

“It’s been here for 50 years and we want to make sure it will be here for another 50.”

lake norman: Mooresville's Big Moment! - 06/07/13 05:55 AM
President Barack Obama was so impressed by the Mooresville Graded School District that he stopped by to see first hand for himself and learn more in-depth about their Technology Immersion Program in their schools.

He arrived at the Mooresville Middle School gymnasium shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon to a roaring reception that was from a crowd almost certainly made up of more Republicans than Democrats.
It was the first official visit by a sitting president to Iredell County in more than a century.
“Hello, Mooresville!” the president belted out after a few opening comments. “It’s always a great day … (0 comments)

lake norman: “Because of Student Loans, Mary Can’t Get Her Mortgage” - 06/02/13 11:20 PM
This young lady was VERY FORTUNATE INDEED to have a very generous family member and also someone who is still in the position to have money to freely give to others and it wasn't all lost a few years ago during our rough times. I also like the point she makes about if having to do it over again to instead go to community college to make the overall burden less upon graduation. I think that's a GREAT IDEA!  Thanks for sharing Joe :)

lake norman: Where do you post localism posts ? - 05/12/13 09:24 PM
This is a really great and very informative piece written to help you to better understand "Localism" which I have to admit that up until this point has been the most confusing to me. It has really helped to clear things up for me and to help me to better understand how to best utilize this feature.
I write many local posts either about market reports or events and also read other local posts because I am interested in reading about activity in other parts of the country.
I have read  many wonderful well written  posts but see that they … (2 comments)

lake norman: Do I have to have a Lockbox on the property? - 04/29/13 02:26 PM
By the seller questioning the agents advice and knowledge on how to best show and market the property for sale, it is like scheduling surgery for yourself and then trying to tell the surgeon how to perform the procedure and how to do their job! If they think enough to hire you, they should listen and heed the advice of the agent and know that they are acting in the best interest of the client to market and sell the home as best as possible.

lake norman: The Famous Question ... "How's The Market"?" - 03/22/13 02:04 AM

 “How’s the Market?”
One of the best things about being in the real estate business is that people always want to talk to you and the number one questions is always “How’s the market?” Well ... I'm sure much to their surprise ... the answer is "The market has shifted"! Compared to the market in 2004 when anyone that could fog a mirror could buy a house. The market shifted toward the end of 2007, and the real estate business became much more complicated. Mortgages became much tougher to obtain, property values decreased, and distressed properties became a big part of the … (2 comments)

lake norman: Home Inventory at an All-Time Low! - 03/21/13 02:22 AM
All signs point to a powerful second quarter when it comes to home sales in the Carolinas!
With buyer activity and homes sales on the rise and available inventory at an all time low, it is now truly a "Sellers Market" in many areas  Due to the lowest inventory of homes in history, homes that are well prepared and priced right are selling with multiple offers.  The counties with the highest home sales and lowest inventory of current homes on the market are in areas that are also seeing an increase in job growth but the overall increase of home … (1 comments)
