I have written about the landmark home at 730 Southard Street on several occasions and I have actually received both phone calls and emails from potential buyers that were genuinely interested in the property. But none of the contacts has yet resulted into a written offer from my buyers. It is time for someone that has "that vision thing" (a catch phrase used by President George H.W. Bush when he responded to suggestions he refocus objectives away from short term campaign objectives to look to the longer term). A few years back when the cost of single family residential housing in Old Town Key West got to be nearly prohibitive for all but the super rich, several larger old properties and some former apartments were converted into condominiums. A few years back Key West had an Assistant City Manager that was full of pomp and circumstance. He blustered about making Key West a leader in technology by getting the entire city wired for the future. I like it when government gets simple jobs done correctly and efficiently. I don't care if Key West is a leader, but I do care if things work correctly, efficiently, and as inexpensively as possible. This blog address but one issue: getting new utility services started. Just listed, but not by me, 3 Aster Terrace in Key West's bedroom community of Key Haven. This is the area where many of the local Key West business owners and professionals live. Summers are historically slow selling times for houses in Key West. A lot of locals leave town and shut their businesses in September because business is so slow. But September 2009 saw a flurry of real estate activity. There were 30 single family homes that sold in September. Six were bank owned houses and eight were short sales. The sellers on a couple of the other sales offered bonuses to selling agents so even though those sales were not "short", they may have been goosed a bit.
