The Bellingham Technical College offering " Fundamentals of Home Inspection" was the first course in the state to receive approval from the Department of Licensing when home inspector licensing took effect a few years ago.
This course attracts many students, from around the state, who wish to be trained as home inspectors. The next class will begin on February 4, 2013. The four-week session includes 120-hours of fundamentals training and 40 hours of on-site field training.

The next home inspector training course, to be conducted at Bellingham Technical College, will begin on Monday, September 10, 2012. That is the last inspector training course for this year (how fast it is flying by) at Bellingham Technical College. This is a state approved course and the student receives 120 hours of fundamentals of home inspection training and another 40 hours of field training. The student, who completes the course, will be prepared to take the Washington State Home Inspector Licensing test and work in the field of home inspection.

Bellingham Technical College is an approved provider of home inspection training in the State of Washington.
The state law requires anyone who wishes to enter the field of home inspection to complete a 120 hour course in the fundamentals of home inspection. To sit for the state test, that individual must, also, obtain 40 hours of in-the-field training. If any prospective inspector does not meet those basic requirements, he or she is not allowed to take the state exam.
The next four-week program, offered by Bellingham Technical College, is scheduled to begin on April 30, 2012.

We have one class in progress right now, students from the Seattle area and Eastern Washington. The schedule for the next home inspector training course, to be offered at Bellingham Technical College, is hot off the presses. The first course of 2012 starts on February 6, 2012.

The home inspection training course at Bellingham Technical College now has its own "assigned" room. In years gone by, we were given a classroom that was available by virtue of it not being in use at the time the course was offered. As of this year, we have been assigned classroom B-12. The room is fully equipped with computers and media equipment. Here is a photo of a few of the recent students working on report writing in the new facility.

The Bellingham Technical College home inspection training course, next offering begins in October, includes 40 hours of supervised field training. We keep the groups small during field training and, if need be, we divide into two groups with two field training instructors each day.
The next Fundamentals of Home Inspection course, and the accompanying field training, begins on campus at Bellingham Technical College on Monday, October 17, 2011.

The last home inspector training course for they year 2011, will be conducted at Bellingham Technical College beginning on October 17. The BTC course, one of the longest running in the state, is state approved by the department of licensing.
Students receive 120 hours of fundamentals of home inspection training and 40 hours of field training. The prospective home inspector, who completes the course, is ready to take the state licensing exam and work in the field of home inspection.

Bellingham Technical College will be running another 120-hour home inspection training course beginning on October 17, 2011. After that, so students are qualified to sit for the state exam, we will offer the 40-hours of state approved field training. That will begin on November 4, 2011. This will be, for the year 2011, the last such course offering.
The BTC inspection course was the first course to receive state accreditation when licensing began a couple years ago. To make it convenient for students, the training includes both the three weeks of Fundamentals of Home Inspection Training, 120-hours, and 40-hours of field training. At Bellingham Technical College, those of us who are involved in the home inspector training program, believe that it is important for students to be introduced to the duties of being not only a home inspector but, also, a structural pest inspector.
The way the state law reads, home inspectors who do not, in addition to the home inspector license, also have the state structural pest inspector license are not permitted to report on any of the insect pests -- wood boring beetles, ants or termites. There will only be one more such class at BTC this calender year so anyone interested should take advantage of the more relaxed atmosphere on campus during the summer months.

Bellingham Technical College is a leader in the state in providing home inspector training. I must admit that I have not, so far, made too much use of QR codes. I would have put them on my last printing of business cards but, the whole QR code frenzy broke about two weeks after I bought 2000 cards. There you go, opportunity missed. I do very little as far as print advertising, other than the business cards.

The home inspection training course at Bellingham Technical College now has a "dedicated" room for teaching the residential home inspection training classes. Many students ask about the training facilities and the campus. Since BTC is a part of the state technical and community college system, we have a large campus. I cannot believe how this campus has grown since my early recollections of it from the 1960's. A map of the current layout is below.

I got word from registration today that, as of today, Bellingham Technical College has opened registration for the next installment of home inspection training. The BTC class is fast-track -- the student completes the course, including field training in four weeks. That, obviously, does not mean that the student knows everything -- but it is an excellent jumping off point for the student. And it brings the student to a level that he, or she, is qualified to sit for the state licensing exam. And, of course, BTC has materials that help the student study from the state exams.

An important aspect of obtaining a home inspector license in the State of Washington involves completing not only 120 hours of fundamentals training -- structure, roofs, electric, Hvac, plumbing -- but also 40 hours of field training. The fundamentals training must be completed at an approved school. The field training may be done with a licensed inspector.
